To be fair he has been saying for awhile that he was waiting for the supreme court decision.

^^ Why did you have to wait for the courts? Shouldn't basic decency and logic lead you to believe that there was something wrong about what was being done with the Guantanamo prisoners?

No, if that were the case, the Geneva rules wouldn't have had to be invented.

Besides, I don't support any physical torture, but I think that enemy combatants can be sleep-deprived and held longer without trial than your average citizen. That way you can get information from them to help you fight the war.

That doesn't make sense. That's like saying we don't need laws against murder, because people know not to murder.

Also, personally, I can handle a little torture, if they know who they are torturing, but in the cause of Guantanamo, they didn't know who was really guilty, and who wasn't, and they weren't even doing any investigating to find out, as well as not charging people or holding trials, only holding secret trials when they did, and a policy of detaining them indefinitely. That is the worst part of the while thing, IMO.

I might be amenable to saying that the detainees deserve their rights just as human beings, but I've yet to see one good reason why they deserve them because of the Geneva Convention.

Well it's either military courts under the Geneva Convention or civilian court.

You can't wave a wand and create a magical third option in which the prisoner gets the worst of both worlds (so says the SC)
