nice, but i still wonder why anyone would build an arena that looks only 3/4 done. http://www.virginiaathleticsfoundation.com/JPJA_June2006/Newest%20JPJA%20Web%20Album.htmlhttp://fmweb.virginia.edu/fpc/arenaproject/Sitework/SiteWorkJune06.htm[Edited on July 7, 2006 at 1:01 AM. Reason : other link]

that glare from all those windows is really gonna suck ass
7/7/2006 1:05:09 AM
yeah i thought about that too. i guess they wanted that feel that some of the older gyms had, with natural light and all. students will be in the sideline seats on one side (the one with the clear division between the upper and lower parts of the lower bowl), and they'll be in that one endzone bleacher of seats. i think they'll also have a few in the upper deck as well. oh well it's nice to at least see that other ACC schools are trying to build world class arenas like UMD and ourselves have. while the JPJ Arena is nice, i'd still rather have the RBC Center.

place looks pretty poshlike the kind of place only a soft uva alumnus could love
7/7/2006 1:08:23 AM
^haha, good one.
7/7/2006 1:09:20 AM
^^^ they already have curtains up
7/7/2006 1:10:55 AM
Capacity: 15,219that's good for what 4th in the conference behind 1st UNC, 2nd NCSU, 3rd UMD?imagine if we would have added Syracuse instead of BC.
7/7/2006 1:13:39 AM
yeah i was really hoping for syracuse as well, but im pretty sure boeheim wanted nothing to do with the acc
7/7/2006 1:17:32 AM
wasn't Jimmy V's original intentions to have the RBC Center seat something like 24k?
7/7/2006 1:19:29 AM
7/7/2006 1:41:58 AM
did they name it for this guy? if so, thats pretty cool.
7/7/2006 1:51:40 AM
nah some guy donated a ton of money and had it named after his wheel chair riding, blind as a bat father.
7/7/2006 2:03:14 AM
John Paul Jones is the Chuck Norris of the US/Russian Navies.
7/7/2006 8:16:36 AM
sooo they put in curtains in the second teir to hide the empty seats and make the place look full?good move.
7/7/2006 10:17:14 AM
how many suites/boxes does the RBC Center have?
7/8/2006 7:04:31 PM
how far behind are we when it comes to the dean dome?
7/8/2006 7:54:43 PM
capacity wise?Dean Dome - 21,750RBC Center - 19,722it's quite amazing that we have two of the top-10 largest college arenas in this state. actually the RBC Center would be higher if certain arenas like the 76ers arena wasn't counted for teams like Villanova that only play a few games in.
7/8/2006 8:14:56 PM
^truei know saint louis university counts the savis center for their capacity as of nowthey should be building a 13k arena soon though so they will drop from the top 10
7/8/2006 8:18:43 PM
looks nice
7/8/2006 11:36:13 PM
RBC >>> JPJ

RBC could sit a lot more if the seat spacing was similar to the Dean Dome's...they just like having a crotch right above their neck...
7/9/2006 2:00:56 AM
we could also seat more if the two corners where the two tunnels that the teams don't use are filled with seats. i know that the MCI (now Verizon) Center did that during the ACC tournament, and possibly other games to increase capacity. also we could make the entire sideline seating riser type seats and just pack all of the students on the sideline in like sardines in a can.
7/9/2006 4:55:51 AM
^agree...there shouldnt be any seats in the student section....we could fit more students and it would force students to stand the whole game...which i nice
7/9/2006 6:15:54 PM
i don't mind there being seats in the end court areas, but we could easily just bring in some make shift bleachers on the sideline areas with numbers on them to provide some order in terms of not making it a free for all, kind of like Duke's set up. have everyone enter through the sides, and screw any type of aisles. i want to see a see of red bodies on each side. this would also more than likely make people show up earlier to find their seat, which would help with the pre-game atmosphere. 30 minutes prior to the tip of the UNC game was awesome. a ton of students already in the stands and taunting the Heels players and going crazy. i still remember the guy yelling something probably deragotory at Hansbrough as he ran to the tunnel after warm-ups, and the shocked look on Hansdouche's face as a result. too bad our team didn't show up like the students did. also these could be made into even more desirable seats than what they already are, making students go more balls out each game, b/c they wouldn't know when they would get those seats again. another thing is that it would put more students in the lower bowl, and athletics could either keep the upper deck student sections for the students or sell one or part of the sections as season tickets or individual game tickets.[Edited on July 9, 2006 at 7:55 PM.
