Might not be sports talk material, but hell...it is summa timewith all the construction going on around campus, when in the hell are these two buildings going to get re-done. The bookstore needs to be put out of its misery in the worst way. I was over there today, and saw a few families visiting with potential students, and just wondered how fucking bad that place looks to a first timer. I went two a few Georgia football games and they had just put in a new bookstore, and it was damn impressive...and compared to some of the other expenses, seems like the university could get a major upgrade with a new bookstore, hell, its the first place that people usually go when they visit a campus.Carmichael isn't bad inside, but needs some serious renovations. Unless they have done a serious remodel in the 3 years since I graduated that place is about due.[/rant]

I agree about the bookstore. It is definitely old and too small for a major university. Plus it's a damn rip off, but that is another topic.

bookstore definately needs a serious renovationthe gym is getting a pretty major one right now fyi
7/6/2006 3:38:03 PM
the gym is getting an addition, not a renovation
7/6/2006 3:51:17 PM
^and^^ is that why the entire street is ripped up in front of the gymany idea where the addition is going?

they are repaving catesthe addition is being built where the old outdoor basketball courts were locatedalso, a new FYC building is being constructed where the old SG parking lot was across from tuckerand the walkways around the water fountain beside the bookstore are being reconstructed[Edited on July 6, 2006 at 3:58 PM. http://www.ncsu.edu/facilities/project/construction_notice/map_construction_staging17x11maincampus.pdfthat's the current construction going on on campus.^^^^yeah, I would think the paving will be done since they are pretty much done with it now. The hold up is they are putting in steam lines at the intersection of cates and dan allenI don't know if it there are any plans, but I remember reading something last year that the long term goal is to tear down tally and the bookstore and build something bigger there that would have both in it.The addition to the gym is primarily storage and cardio / aerobics stuff. From the artist renderings, it looks to me like the addition is going to be horribly out of place.http://www.ncsu.edu/carmichael/subs/expansion.php[Edited on July 6, 2006 at 4:52 PM. Reason : link]

I still don't know why we don't try and build a badass gym over at Centennial. The room to build is there plus they could put in a ton of parking (unlike carmichael) so people off campus could actually go park at the gym before 5 pm. Also a new gym would not only be a great addition to helping Centennial become more a part of campus, but would help wow prospective freshman. Obviously that'll take alot of money, but I think it would be a wise investment. Carmichael is too small for a university our size and is very out-dated.

^^that'd be a cool idea if we had that monorail idea come to fruition. i heard that if they actually did do the monorail, they could put it under ground to go under Western and pop out up in Centennial Campus for the same price of putting it in above ground.in probably 50-100 years the university will have probably taken over all of the land in between Centennial and Main Campus anyways.[Edited on July 7, 2006 at 4:44 AM.
