jl 500/1infinity's variable Q system is cool and if you're looking at the older ones they respond down to 18hzthe new ones are like 23 or 25i think jl's speakers are pretty awesome too thoughthe alpines were tight but they look like ass imho (build quality wise)
7/5/2006 9:17:26 PM
Don't like Alpines, but Infinity isn't bad. I think they are over priced for not much bass. JL's are good and give rich bass. Provided you find a good deal.

i vote you're queer for making this thread.

^^^Ok asshole- So there is a pic of me with one of my buddys jumping on my back, a pick of me and two friends after a wedding, and a pic of random hammered kid being a retard- I am certainly not jumping over fires in any of the above- You have a bunch of pics of big trucks... That is original i tell ya! You have a big truck just like every other "good 'ole boy" in NC, lucky you.wtf is ur deal anyways? Go to chit chat and be a cocksucker- I'm just trying to get a little outside info on what subs to chose... Way to be a fuckin loser though
7/5/2006 11:13:07 PM
7/5/2006 11:22:56 PM
^ the enclosure size is why infinity did the variable Q thing so you can tune the speaker to your enclosure needs... not just size the enclosure for the speaker

7/5/2006 11:43:28 PM
hell i really don't care what you think of me i'm just informing him to ignore you like the rest of this place does

^ makes me laugh
7/5/2006 11:50:10 PM
alpine type R prolly won't be as loud, but it is crisp and clean...i would get JL over both of those though...
7/5/2006 11:52:44 PM
everyone keeps saying JL... What model? I have found in searching that there is cheap ass JL 12's and then crazy expensive JL 12's... Not much of a mid grade selection. even on ebay- there are $79 dollar subs and then $300 subs and not a shit ton in between...anyone wanna buy a memphis m3 DVC?
7/5/2006 11:59:50 PM
negro plz. it's rolling on some 10" casters.
7/6/2006 12:02:13 AM
It doesn't matter. You won't be able to tell the difference.Just buy whatever is on sale.
7/6/2006 12:05:49 AM
what power level and boom level are you looking for they're all pretty clean speakers but i think i'd stay away from the 1 seriesW3V3 with a 250/1 amp or W6V2 with a 500/1 amp or 2 W3V3s W7s seem to blow or tear a lot but i guess thats also cause people put more power to them.
7/6/2006 12:07:36 AM
oh snap, did someone say
7/6/2006 12:12:50 AM
Well right now I have a MA Audio Mono HK2000D (True 1800watt amp) Puts out 1000wats rms @ 2ohms. I was thinking about running two Infinity Perfect 12.1's single voice coils so that i can run both off mono amp at 2 ohms. They are 350w rms a piece so they would be getting 500 a piece and should sound great.orI have a bazooka mono block that puts out 500w @ 2 ohms (1 channel) and was thinking of getting one (GOOD) 12 and pumping it. right now I have a type R in there and it is ok, and i have that memphis m3 that is insance but i have had problems with box size for it...I fucking hate this setup and now that i wasted the money on a Huge amp (ma) i need to find a good set of reasonable subs to run with it
7/6/2006 12:16:26 AM
i'm more into a balance high SQ system than anything that would need 1800 wattsby the sounds of it though dual w3v3s would sound nice i'm sure
7/6/2006 12:19:42 AM
I agree- The reason i am not happy with the alpine right now with all 500 watts through it is because it is way to Bassy... It is real loud but none of the bass lines are clear. evrything runs together. I only bought the new amo cuz i got a good deal on it. I have heard that the infinity subs are good sq subs as well as hit pretty hard.how much does that set of JL's generally run?[Edited on July 6, 2006 at 12:22 AM. Reason : .]
7/6/2006 12:22:35 AM
hmm well ebay... 4-5 hundred per pair new ... in the store 3- 350 each i think
7/6/2006 12:24:27 AM
line out converters are gonna make pretty much any thing sound "bassy" and make all the bass lines run together...Only going w/ the JL slash series may HELP to eliminate this and a JL sub but you are talking a lot of money for this setup compare to an Alpine setup
7/6/2006 1:00:02 AM
does he not have pre-outs?
7/6/2006 1:05:50 AM
if this is the install I just did for him its running off a factory alpine indash changer(which is a nice deck for the factory)... its in a 2002? Lincoln(sp?) LS
7/6/2006 1:29:39 AM
ick.. yeah man you need a head unit with some sort of sub control. that would probably clean things up a ton
7/6/2006 1:31:27 AM
if we're talking about '05+ type r, then the alpine hands down. the type rs are BEAST they will take double thier rms power. the perfect only takes 350w, the perfect will probaly sound a tiny bit better but the type r will definatly get louder and sound pretty good.get a hu or jl's line converter, something that will help you control/ adjust bass, eqs / crossovers/ etc. also what type of enclosure si the type r in ? and are you rsure you gain / bass boost settings are correct on your current amp?
7/6/2006 8:47:26 AM
I just recently made this very decision myself.Tried both, with the same amp:The Type R got louder, not much, but louder. The Perfect (it was not VQ, just 12.1) gets plenty loud for my taste, and more importantly SOUNDS BETTER. It has a more even response, and seems to be able to go lower than the Alpine. It's basically a toss b/w the two, but if you're looking for OMGROX0R power, go with Alpine. Infinity for quality (still has PLENTY of power.)I went Infinity
7/6/2006 9:30:49 AM
heres the deal with the line out and any suggestions are welcome. I have a lincoln ls with an Alpine 6 disc changer in it as well as factory amp/speakers from Lincolns premium sound setup. Form what i understand if i pull that in dash changer and replace then the factory amp will not work right and the speakers in effect will not sound right either.... I was told not to swap out with the deck and just get a line out.... Where can you find a line out that has sub control switch? Is this whole 'don't swap the deck " thing correct? Can I find an add on for that MA amp to add sub control?

QUICK: How would someon feal about the kicker 12" SB with the cutsom ported box (VS12L5) with 1000x1 @2 ohms running it????????????
7/6/2006 11:36:37 AM
^I hope you are looking for a ton of bass.
7/6/2006 12:13:33 PM
too late: Could have got the sub in Kicker built box for $86 on ebay- missed the bid though
7/6/2006 12:17:28 PM
fantatik u compared 2 subs with the same power (probaly the same enclosure too) when the type r takes almost twice the power, i woudln't say that comparison is really fair .i would get a real hu , sell 1 of the 2 amps use that money to buy a new 4 channel amp. also since you car is fairly new u could easily sell the indash changer and factory amp for a few hundred bucks on ebay.if really want bass put 1 of those type rs in the right box(around 3 cubes tuned to 30-35 hz using aero ports) and it will destroy plenty of subs while sounding good, including that kicker l5(or an l7 for that matter)that ur looking at.

BBR FTW[Edited on July 6, 2006 at 4:24 PM. Reason : .]
7/6/2006 4:24:03 PM
^^I agree with you, it's not a valid scientific experiment, but ummm... I said teh Alpine was LOUDER... So... I guess if you gave it more power.... it would be even MORE LOUDER.my point was, and still is: the Infinity seems to have better response, and is able to produce more "musical" sounding bass.
