Alright, so 12 days ago I took a nasty tumble at a bar and landed HARD on my elbow. Since then my elbow has hurt like hell. It was swollen and bruised for about 7-8 days, and still has some swelling. I don't have joint pain, but putting any weight on the end of my elbow is quite painful and it hurts to touch the bone. I've also noticed that there is something loose and hard in my elbow right around where I fell on it. (I mean I can move it around under the skin)My only thoughts on this is that its a bone chip? If it still really hurts on Friday I'm gonna go get an Xray. Any thoughts on this?

Don't drink so much.

You should probably go get an X-ray.

Two tall guys walked into a bar. A third guy ducked under it.

You're looking at bursitis. I had this happen to my knee right before summer camp when I was younger. Basically, the bursae that usually floats around and keeps your joints lubed was slightly damaged when you busted your elbow...it can get scar tissue in it and become swollen and inflammed. For my knee, I had to wear a brace for 2 or 3 weeks but I don't know about the implications for not going to the doctor.I still have a hard little bursae floating around in my knee. I can press it and feel it moving around. I doubt if you're feeling a bone chip...more than likely, it's a bursae with a little damage and scar tissue. This website says to treat it at home and if it hasn't healed in 10 days, go see the doctor.http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/bursitis/DS00032[Edited on July 5, 2006 at 4:26 PM. Apparently you're in TKE--that means that we'll assume you drink a lot, without actually knowing you.

since it is still hurting this far out, it should be checked out by a doc. do you have any pain/numbess/tingling that shoots down your arms or is in your fingers (like your pinky and ring fingers in particular)? does it feel like hitting your funny bone when you put it down on something and it hurts? if so it could be a problem with your ulnar nerve. any way, if you can take nsaids like advil/ibuprofen or aleve/naproxen then you might want to take some if it was an injury. ~skip~

Don't go to the doctor. So you chipped a bone or something? Big deal. It'll heal. You shouldn't have gone to the doctor. Now you have to go back.[Edited on July 9, 2006 at 3:38 AM. Reason : sss]

^^my favorite bar, where the bartenders and servers have never been anything but awesome to me.^Well, I could not go if I felt like it. I mean, the orthopedist I saw Friday has me wondering. After I described my pain and how it happened he was like, umm I think you have tendonitis and should have some physical therapy. I said, hold on a second man. I FELL and banged my elbow to cause the injury. Plus, I've lifted weights at the gym, and waterskiied without any joint pain. Of course I don't have any fucking tendonitis. He was like, ahh okay.
7/9/2006 9:53:19 PM
hmm having developed tendonitis DURING physical therapy.........i can say that tendonitis burnsBURNS!!!
7/9/2006 11:28:35 PM
Beyond what you said about tendonitis - the actual medical definition of tendonitis is inflamation of a tendon (dur). So, if you feel something loose in your elbow and shit, I really don't think that it could be tendonitis regardless of how it feels when you are active...
7/11/2006 1:53:12 PM
Yeah thats what I think. Idiot doctors!I'm still waiting for my health insurance to approve an MRI. but if it takes too long and if my pain continues to go away, I might say forget it...
7/11/2006 1:58:00 PM
wow, tendonitis is inflammation of a tendon!! gee, i hope if i have a quesion next week on the NCLEX-RN about tendonitis that I get it right
