control sound system in house hooked up to my media pc from my laptop (without having to VNC and do it that way)

anyone know of a winamp plugin that will let you remote control it? and actually work well (i.e. show the playlist and song titles locally, but when you change songs locally, it'll change it remotely)... would like it to use winamp itself if possible.

no web interface only (optional)

oh and i'd just get an ATI remote wonder but it won't work in 64-bit xp/vista

I have a new Creative Labs IR remote control kit that works with Winamp, but it's serial interface so I don't know if you can use it. $7 if you want it.

Most winamp remote plugins are written for specific remote models or series. Search their site and you may find something.

I would try to find a command line based mp3 player and then ssh/telnet into your machine and change tracks

to the 2 replies before smoothcrim...

i'm trying to do this via my LAPTOP over the network... not a remote control.

i'm using xp x64, so if i can get an older ati remote wonder that can work with it (newer ones don't) i'll have to use Girder software or similar to work w/ winamp.

but i'm trying to do this via the network and haven't found ONE good one.

Why not VNC?

Or just grab VS2005Express and make a WebService frontend to winamp. Most of the COM based controls should import in easily.

I know this isn't what yer asking for, but I have this Audigy Platinum Ex sitting in my house, it is an original audigy but it is the rediculously high end one that had the 2 pci cards, break out box and remote control. This thing is just collecting dust at my place because I dont have a desktop box to plug it into, I'd sell it but nevermind, your trying to do all this with a laptop, damnit!

Anybody want this thing? It was the best you could get at one time and sound cards dont obsolesce quite as badly as video cards do. It is a bit overkill for me though, I am gonna build a shuttle cube or something tiny and can't spare 2 pci clots for this thing, especially if I get one of those fat ATI cards which blocks the pci clot next to it.
