What are you going to do with your major? I'm feeling a bit lost on what I'm doing in this program other than taking an easy curriculum and I'd like to know what others' perceived opportunities consist of...

why are you in a major if you don't know what you can do with it when you graduate

It is okay to go a non vocational route with your major and go for a job unrelated to your major. Maybe a music degree could help with a generic staff position at a college/university/community college, or as music teacher in public schools w/ lateral entry certification, or in private schools without extra certification, or with a group like arts NC state, or retail/management at store that sells music equipment/instruments. A 4 year degree at a college puts you ahead a good chunk of the population towards getting jobs, even if it’s not vocational. I would suggest if you are going to stick with it to start making friends/contacts in the different job possibilities. It looks like you’re already a senior, so starting over at this point might cost you a lot of time. Not all your resume has to be built with your schooling; some can be built through related work, even if it is low level entry stuff to start with.

A friend of mine in the music fraternity I’m in, Mu Beta Psi (our Alpha chapter is at ncsu), graduated with the same your going for at the end of the fall semester and now I think is going to be an executive director with Arts North Carolina, an arts advocacy non-profit group.

It’s easy to have panic moments towards the end when you are surrounded by engineers who have things more or less lined up… but NCSU wouldn’t offer the degrees if they were useless. There are jobs out there, even if it takes some extra searching.

i was in mech. engineering for 5 semesters and this was the easy way out, in terms of graduating in less than 6 years, doing something i like, wait...maybe i took that a little too far

potential double major because this bachelor of arts thing is bs...do you really need a degree to be a disc jockey or work at a tv station (career centers possible job opp. online)

A lot of people want to be DJ's and work at TV stations. You have to have something that makes you stand out.

i never said that's what i wanted to do, it was just mentioned as potential job sites etc

optimally i'd like to work in soundtrack coordination or talent scouting but that seems to be more or less just wishful thinking

This is the gameplan thus far.

Communication Media w/ Minors in Music and Journalism.

My reasoning for the minors...

I enjoy playing guitar, and I figure the performance minor will only enhance my playing. Plus I think a wedding band would be cool to have later in life.

The journalism minor so I can lern how too rite good. I'd like to do entertainment law and I need to get in the habit of reading and writing.

My reasoning for the major...

It seems most applicable to the music industry. It will also open up the opporunity of law school or other forms of grad school. Plus by being in school it gives me time to kill and make contacts.

Rest assured I am active outside of school setting myself up for the days when classes will be over.

I am tired and rambling.
