Need to get the brakes on my 97 Accord replaced. One of my friends was supposed to do it for me, but he's left town for a few months. So, I have all the parts but no tools nor the expertise to do it myself. I would go to J&J's but they charge quite a bit.If anyone here knows how to do it and would do it for cheap then let me know. (Or maybe recommend someplace)

how much would you pay? what does J&J charge?Does that Accord year have the gay front rotor shit where theyre built into the hubs or something?

^ yeah you gotta take the nut off the hub and pop it all out with a slide hammer, then unbolt the rotor from the back to turn it

damn, thats silly. i think you can convert to Acura hubs w/ regular rotors or something. I've never messed w/ this but a friend of mine was talking about it once.my gf's '99 has regular rotors and my old '88 had regular rotors. i wonder why they did this

J&J charges like $100/axle including all parts except the rotors.I already have all the parts, so anything reasonably cheaper will be good for me.

go to a place with an on-car lathentb has one919-852-1300

whats an on-car lathe, and what do i do with it. Sorry dont know much bout all this.

it turns your rotors (machines them) without taking them off the hub. supposed to be truer than taking them off and machining them on a regular lathe and also in your case spares the extra time of taking the rotors off. they are convenient for 4wd vehicles and for strangely designed brake systems such as yours

And interestingly enough it's the only factory approved method for machining Honda rotors. This from a friend who is a former honda tech...he said they actually used to use a machine that had two grinding stones, much like flywheel grinding machines use.

Man looks like im going to have to go to J&J's. Hopefully they wont charge much just for the labor.

the rears are easy. or maybe look at your front rotors. do they look bad? like any deep groves? if not theyll probably be ok. or did you already buy new rotors?
6/27/2006 5:00:05 PM
6/27/2006 6:05:35 PM
I already bought them all. Just went to J&J he say's 70/axle if I get the parts.
6/27/2006 6:06:54 PM
GOOD JOB! Now you are paying 70% of what you would have payed anyway, with 0% warranty coverage.

It started off with my friend doing it for close to free. So its not like as If I had much of an option.

if your front rotors are ok (read: i dont want to change them) i'll replace pads and rear rotors for $100
6/27/2006 6:17:54 PM
6/27/2006 6:52:40 PM
Well, the front rotors need to be changed too. Theres a slight grinding sound every time I take a turn and when I hold/release the brakes.
6/27/2006 11:52:15 PM
^^Yeah, I guess. Thanks guys, guess im going to J&J tomorrow morning then.
6/27/2006 11:52:59 PM
I would take a close look at them damn rotors. If they ain't warped, I'd be tempted to throw a set of pads on there and roll with it. Fuck a whole bunch of extra work if it ain't necessary.
6/28/2006 2:15:00 AM
^ damn straight, hit them things with the 3-m wheel to break the glaze and let it roll
6/28/2006 8:34:45 AM
DONE.
