This will be a thread to discuss traditions here at State. Whether past, present, or even ideas for new ones. One idea that I think would be a cool new tradition at basketball games would be to sing the song "Tobacco Road". It could be sang before the game, after the game, halftime, or sometime half-way through the second half. Any opinions? Also we need to bring back the tradition started for Bobby Hurley of singing "99 bottles of beer on the wall...take one down drive around town..." for players that have been caught drunk driving. Damn you J.J., why'd you have to graduate this year.

People need to learn OUR own Alma Mater and actually say something besides NC STATE.
6/24/2006 5:34:19 PM
well i know it and sing it at games. that's one that can be added to the list.
6/24/2006 5:36:33 PM
yeah everyone learning the words to the old traditional songs would be a nice step
6/24/2006 5:36:41 PM
6/24/2006 5:38:22 PM
why do I know the NCSU fight song and I never even went there
6/24/2006 5:42:17 PM
if we did get all of the students to sing Tobacco Road, question is which version should we use? should the students just sing it acapella, or should the pep band start it out. i think it'd be sweet to hear 3,000 students dancing and singing to it. perhaps the alumni could join in as well.

stop gaying up basketball with "new" traditionssee: pre-game clapping
6/24/2006 8:50:56 PM
our alma mater suffers from the 12 days of christmas problem.
6/24/2006 8:54:05 PM
^^ i didn't think that was that bad
6/24/2006 11:59:38 PM
losing to carolina has become a tradition
6/25/2006 12:33:08 AM
what are some football traditions? i wish the band did a mini concert for the student section everytime, like the way they did during the Clemson game. i'd like to one day see the entire student section dancing to "Apache" when the band plays it. i think the atmosphere will definitely be better since the band will be right beside us next year (i'm not counting the seats in the NEZ).

I want us to have 30+ wolf mascot suits, and have student volunteers burst out of the tunnel before football games. They could spread out all over the stadium, getting people pumped up. I think it would be an awesome sight, it would be unique to us since most mascots aren't PACK animals, and it would instantly outshine the pregame rituals of other schools. Things like "players tapping a sign" or "trombone player dotting an i" look like shit compared to "dozens of wolves storming into the stadium".
6/25/2006 10:58:44 AM
The problem with starting new traditions is they are too closely tied to the success of the program. The WOC being a prime example. If the team was actually champions (or won consecutive ACC home games) then people would really get into it. Right now it fans would rather drink an extra beer or two than see the team arrive at the stadium. Admittedly I am guilty of this. Losing promotes apathy. I hope to correct this season (the first with season tickets as an alumni).
6/25/2006 11:47:04 AM
^^ cool idea, I like that
6/25/2006 12:06:29 PM
is leading the ACC in penalties a tradition yet?
6/25/2006 12:15:53 PM
for florida state, yea
6/25/2006 12:18:52 PM
I like FSU's sod cemetary. That's pretty coolNCSU football traditions are nonexistent.... basketball we have plenty. Football, not so much
6/25/2006 12:37:41 PM
Dammit when are we gonna get those live wolves? Can we at least get some animatronic ones?
6/25/2006 2:07:40 PM
we need a permanent slogan, one that doesnt sound stupidi like liverpool fc's slogan: "you will never walk alone".
6/25/2006 3:13:01 PM
^^Real wolves wouldn't act right in a stadium, and mechanical ones would look stupid.
6/25/2006 3:30:11 PM
i was mainly joking, but you'd be amazed at what technology can do these days. let's get our Computer Science Department working on it right now.i do think it's cool that LSU has a tiger in a giant cage on wheels displayed at their games.[Edited on June 25, 2006 at 3:32 PM. Reason : ]

Having the quality of a Vet school that we do have at NC State, I don't think a few wolves would be out of the question.
6/25/2006 5:22:04 PM
lets start a tradition of having live wolves at the game.. and have a pre-game fight with our real mascot vs the opponent's real mascot...State vs Carolina would be so much more fun to see our real wolves rip apart a ram
6/25/2006 6:20:40 PM
6/25/2006 6:40:58 PM
Everyone goes to NC State.
6/25/2006 8:03:13 PM
In some ways, we all go to NC State. In other ways, only students that take classes there do.
6/25/2006 8:32:56 PM
6/25/2006 10:01:06 PM
i still say a couple of live wolves to the left and right of the visitor tunnel would be sweet. one should be called Tuffy though, as for the other, i don't really know. one a boy and the other a girl, and they have their own compound on the nc state vet school campus. this way they breed us some other one for the future. it'd be great for our vet students that want to work at zoos and parks.^i actually like that one, but i don't really like the WITH program. someone imbed the Wolfpack rap song. you know "Don't turn your back on the Wolfpack. ya might wind up in a body bag." it was used in wrestling.[Edited on June 25, 2006 at 10:07 PM. Is some jag getting bent out of shape that an 80-year-old alumnus wants to sit down during a game vs. Mary's School for Blind Girls a tradition?
6/26/2006 9:25:31 AM
^^are you kidding? A wrestling theme song as tradition?
6/26/2006 11:29:48 AM
Football traditions have to start with the stadium. Carter-Finley needs a nickname....my choice would be "The Den" or "The Lair" as used by Dr. Punch a few years ago when FSU came up here to play us.Another cool tradition would have to involve some sort of greeting/goodbye for the opposing team's seating area. I think a gag gift of some sort, laid out on each individual seat would be a nice welcome......example: When ECU comes to C-F next year, put DUNCE hats on all of the away team seats with "EZU" written on them.[Edited on June 26, 2006 at 12:35 PM. Take the Walk of Champions right to the Den of Mediocrity. The "bunch of people in Mr. Wuf costumes" could be pretty cool.[Edited on June 26, 2006 at 12:37 PM. Reason : .]
6/26/2006 12:37:06 PM
the costumes would be cool, but for decent looking ones, expensive as hell also
6/26/2006 3:54:05 PM
Yeah, those costumes probably run a grand apiece, but compared to the millions we're spending (and receiving) on athletics, 30-50 thousand isn't that much.
6/26/2006 7:57:36 PM
i'm wondering how big campout will be this year. if we are doing fairly well, and everybody is enjoying the season it should be huge.
6/26/2006 8:50:17 PM
We've got to make "Protecting the Tunnel" more of a priority. Get some water balloons and fill them up with State Red paint and throw them at UNC students trying to paint the tunnel.
6/29/2006 4:49:04 AM
^now THAT sounds like fun!
6/29/2006 8:41:01 AM
i'll get the balloons if others get the paint!
6/29/2006 9:00:43 AM
are they gonna do the Ram Roast again this next year? so i made a thread over on PP asking the older alum if campout was going on when they were there, and if anyone knew when camping out for tickets began. well the earliest response i got was 1969, but most thought that it was well before that. screw Duke and their K-ville.
6/30/2006 2:33:46 AM
merciless epithets
6/30/2006 3:02:11 AM
6/30/2006 4:24:12 AM
We need to have everyone sing along to the National Anthem when the band plays it. I think that'd be awesome to have 60,000 people all loudly singing along.
7/13/2006 2:59:47 AM
and then everyone could say "RED" really loud and at the end everyone could say "home of the WOLFPACK"
7/13/2006 3:07:31 AM
7/13/2006 1:07:17 PM
7/13/2006 1:19:35 PM
from now on i will only refer to him as "him", "he", or "the one"
7/13/2006 1:42:28 PM
^^^ should be called the "running of the wolves"
7/13/2006 4:07:48 PM
Nice touch, I like it!!!!
