not sure about what's available for internships, you may want to pm robster, he's just transitioned from intern to full-time, so he probably knows more about what's needed than I do.

My team's looking for *experienced* network engineers, focusing on LAN/Campus switching in a Cisco Environment (STP, Multicast, QoS, 802.1q, Vlans, HSRP, in-depth understanding of Ethernet/FastE/GigE, MLS, CEF, etc.)

if you meet that criteria, send me a pm.

yeah, I can get you the low down on the internships if you are interested... and just send me your resume if you are interested in full time also.

If you just graduated here in may or will graduate in december, then you dont have to have super credentials... however, the RTP TAC, which is where we work, hired 8 new hires who are in training right now. Most of us have our CCNP certifications, but 2 of them are very novice to networking. I will say that the learning curve is going to be huge and very difficult for those without prior knowledge, but if the personality and other resume items standout enough, we do hire some without great experience in networking.

If you have been out of school a year or more, we generally want to see networking specific experience, or go out on your own and get some certifications... Otherwise, you probably wont even be considered.

But I will tell you, its the best working environment you could ever ask for, so if you are interested in networking, its worth whatever effort it may take to get a job here. The pay is awesome for new grads, and opportunity for training and bonuses are amazing... weekend work is like 3x pay, holiday work is even more. Paid CCIE Lab tests... anything else I missed Bobby?

Yeah I dont know of any other companies that do "beer and cookies" monthly, or keep a stock in the fridge at all times.

Bobby & Rob, I'm graduating in December and I worked with CALO for 2 semesters. Do you have an idea of which TAC teams will be hiring around January?

^^ Brian, I think that is still unknown as many of them have external spots open for hiring, but college new hire comes from a different pool and allocation program. Mike is still the one to ask about those jobs, but I will let him know you are interested if you want me to.

I am also not sure whether or not they compensate for referrals for that position, but I can find that out too

I was planning on contacting Mike in a while, but if you can get a referral bonus- go for it

I went through the Novell curriculum (for CCNA) in high school, but never bothered taking the test. I think I would have had a good shot at it, though. It's a little fuzzy, but I don't think it'd take long to get caught back up.

^^ I asked him about it today, and he said no bonus for me for college new hires. You could apply just directly to a team that needs people, and I would get a bonus that way. But for you, its better to go through college new hire because you will start with higher pay most likely.

if it was an average company, that might be true, but since we lead innovation, and support, that is not a very accurate statement. Instead of becoming part of globalization, its more accurate to say we manage globalization shifts, but our overall model never changes.

In lamens terms, you will always have people who need to speak to someone in their timezone, with their same accent, and want someone who really knows what they are talking about.

In addition, you will always need someone to manage that process, and those processes that involve the globalization of support.... which is what we do better than anyone else in the world.

ask JD and Assoc.

are you sure YOU speak english sufficiently? god knows you can't write it. gg to your firm and all for "leading innovation and support" (support?), but if you ever have to write a business memo you are fucked.

Oh the classic "I took a class on it, so I'm an expert now" posturing.

Well, my credentials for knowing how outsourcing and globalization factors into my job stability comes from the fact that I oversee all of our outsourced support engineers during east coast hours. Not only do I have intimate knowledge of future outsourcing growth, I also have influence on what tasks will and won't be outsourced.

I'm not going to try and claim that any of this applies to any other company, but I'm pretty fucking certain I know where we're going in my company.

But you took a class so...

You're on the board of directors? Because they are the only ones who are making such important decisions. You must work for some really small company then because I can guarantee you the bigwigs at any firm that might be deciding between outsourcing or not outsourcing are not engineers.

I also like the "east coast" part.

So you don't even talk to the customers? You are just the one they talk to when the outsourced people fuck up? What happens when they make better and smarter outsourced labor?

this is a stupid argument...someone said Cisco isn't a part of globalization.

Jesus

Next, he'll say Chambers isn't associated with Cisco.
