my girlfriend and I have a 12 week old female kitten (her name is Chula)
we've had it ever since it was old enough to leave her mother
my girlfriend would like another kitten about 6-7 weeks old so Chula can have someone to play with when we both go to work all day

should i wait until Chula gets older to bring in another kitten?

No she'll be fine, it's probably best to introduce them younger than older anyway.

Definitely while she is younger. They'll be more of friends, and Chula will start to get territorial over you.

I would definitely get another kitten. Kittens do best when they have another little one to romp with, especially if you spend a lot of time at work or in class.

Now my cat was 3 years old, when I got a kitten. They're the best of friends, but we were incredibly lucky that our older cat took to the kitten as well as he did.

i've never had a problem introducing kittens to older cats.
most of the time the older cat is somewhat territorial but after like a week, they're fine together

but i do agree with everyone else about getting another while Chula is still young

[Edited on June 23, 2006 at 3:26 PM. Reason : i have had a ton of cats in my lifetime and this is sheerly andectotal.....can't say it's "true"]

Honestly, it depends on the individual cat. When we added our 3rd cat, one of our cats was cool and the other wasn't. Plus if you get another kitten for Chula to play with then he/she will not bug you as much.

BrookeRuff had to bring a kitten back to my boyfriend because her older cat tried to kill the kitten. She said she'd never seen him act that way before. He was hissing at and beating up the kitten. She brought the kitten back, and she went to another home.
Some cats can just be like that sometimes. Cats are the world's worst though.

so i just got the other kitten yesterday (her name is Coco)
and Chula is being suuuch a bitch to Coco and to us now

before we got Coco, Chula would not use her claws on me and my girlfriend
Chula would never growl or hiss either

now Chula's not only growling, scratching, and hissing at Coco
but she is now doing all that stuff to us now

i know its only been a couple days but i'm worried and don't know what to do

Just leave Coco and Chula alone. They'll be fine after some time. Be sure to love on Chula and Coco separately.

I read up on how to introduce cats and dogs together when I brought my dog up here, and it said to put their food bowls right on either side of a closed door, so they'll associate something positive with the smell of the other animal. Maybe something like that could help two kittens too. I ended up not needing to do that b/c my dog was scared and anxious about being in a completely new place after 9 yrs at her old home, and my cat was scared of this huge new creature in the apt. So they were pretty neutral and adapted to each other pretty equally.

yeah, it takes some time. we've been in the process of moving, and had quite a few cats at our old house. my brother grabbed the "favorite" (mainly just the most well-behaved, not TOO mischevious) cat, Boots, soon after we've moved and bring him over. my parents were planning on letting the cats stay at the old house. Anyway, about a month ago, my mom got two of the other cats, Boots' sisters Pepe and Brownie and brought them over. Now, at the time, she had them both fixed the day they came over, so they were already sorta grumpy about that. But it took some time for the brother/sisters to get reaqquainted, and for Boots to get over his spoiled rotten "I'm the King" mood.

When we got our beagle, my dad rubbed some of his cologne on him to make it smell like him so our bulldog would associate the beagle with my dad or something. It kind of worked for our bulldog, but that little beagle was an asshole, man. Shitting all the over the house and eating it after you took him outside for half an hour she shit right as soon as he came in the house. He would also jump on top of my poor adorable Roxy and bite her ears, the little ratfink fucker. good thing he ended up not working out, he was a little asshole with papers, too. We gave him to our family friends who had a little girl.

We used to have 2 cats, Kiki and Cupcake who had some babies because they weren't fixed (yes, yes, I know. My dad didn't want to get them fixed because theyre outdoor cats and he said he didn't want to invest money other than rabies shots in animals that might get hit by cars). Anyways, we had 6 adorable little baby kittens that I named Favorite, Biscuit, Butterbean, Sabbath (he was black..get it?), Snoogins and Hawaii when I was about 12, and they were given to close friends when they got a little older.

^ good advice...I have 3 cats, age 4, 2, and 3 months...I've done this twice, and it may* require keeping a door between them, for a week or so, at most...but cats generally work out their problems
on their own.
