is the best young pitcher in baseballcall him johan jr.he's ruining the roger clemens slurpfest on espn right nowremind me to bttt this thread in 3 years when he wins the cy young[Edited on June 22, 2006 at 10:14 PM. Reason : ]

Scott Kazmir
6/22/2006 10:15:31 PM
yeah how's that one working out for you guys
6/22/2006 11:12:42 PM
its all about pelfrey now
6/22/2006 11:34:28 PM
I agree with this thread.Kid was straight up nasty.
6/22/2006 11:35:45 PM
liriano >> kazmirthey both have amazing stuff but i'd say liriano is by far the best young pitcher in baseballliriano is wise beyond his yearshe already calls almost all his pitches and he knows how throw for location instead of being just a strikeout pitcherthe only thing keeping him from winning a Cy young in the next coming years is his teamate johaneven then i wouldn;t be surprised if liriano becomes better pitcher then johani think the twins will have the best two pitchers in baseball for years to come
6/22/2006 11:47:52 PM
josh johnson with the marlins is pretty damn nasty for a young gun too
6/22/2006 11:49:26 PM
anyone who disagrees with this thread is a foolor blindalso, i'm completely unimpressed with "king" felix
6/22/2006 11:51:04 PM
BTTT this thread in 5 years and see what happens.^Felix is only what 19/20? He still is very young.
6/22/2006 11:51:52 PM
^felix has some of the best stuff in baseball but his baseball knowledge and composure is lackingi would like to see feliz become the best picther in baseball cuz i'm a mariners fan but this liriano guy is not humanliriano is 23felix is 20[Edited on June 22, 2006 at 11:55 PM. Reason : asdf]
6/22/2006 11:53:38 PM
yeah but he's in the bigs so he should be producingand every baseball writer in america was slurping on him before the seasoni'm sure he'll come aroundbut so far he just looks like a creampuff out there
6/22/2006 11:53:42 PM
^ again he's still really young and has to deal with a catcher that can't speak english or spanish at all
6/22/2006 11:56:46 PM
i'm not saying the guy is a waste, just that i'm unimpressed with himand its not like he's the only baseball player to ever deal with a language barrierozzie guillen speaks alien
6/22/2006 11:58:24 PM
felix is blowing it right now just gave up 4 runs and the lead
6/23/2006 12:01:46 AM
told ya so
6/23/2006 12:08:15 AM
first time i saw him pitch earlier this year it took me a few pitches to realize it wasnt johan
6/23/2006 10:36:03 AM
I agree that Liriano is the best young pitcher in the game right (thank goodness I held on to him on my fantasy teams while he was still in the bullpen at the start of the year). I think Felix will eventually be a dominant pitcher similar to Pedro. Kazmir is just nasty, but somewhat inconsistent. Peavy is still very young too and should be included in these conversations. Also Jared Weaver has been pretty damn impressive in his 5 starts this year too.[Edited on June 23, 2006 at 11:18 AM. Reason : sp]
6/23/2006 11:18:17 AM
Papelbon can't be left out of any young pitching stars coversation, though he is 24 I think.
6/23/2006 11:20:10 AM
Id rank:LirianoKazmirPapelbonHernandez (even though hes struggling, kids still only like 20)[Edited on June 23, 2006 at 11:24 AM. Reason : ^papelbon has some sick shit, and im pretty sure its his first full year in the pros]
6/23/2006 11:23:44 AM
His ERA is like .036 and hitters are hitting like .150 against him. He could conceivably win the Cy Young this year..Here are his exact stats.ERA: .025Saves: 24/25 (the one was a bases loaded no out scenario in the 8th and he gave up ONE run to blow the save)WHIP: .064OBA: .185[Edited on June 23, 2006 at 11:28 AM. Reason : SICK]
6/23/2006 11:26:55 AM
papelbon is 26i'd have to leave him out of the "young pitcher" class even though he is sicki wouldn't be surprised if he won the cy young this yearbut i'd think johan is gonna win ithe's only 7-4 right now but most of those loses came in april and he's a better 2nd half pitcher anywayif liriano keeps pitching the way he is, i wouldn't doubt it if he would be in the running either
6/23/2006 1:28:23 PM
btt7 innings, 10 ks, 3 hits, still pitching and going for the shutout against the brewersthis kid is insane
7/2/2006 4:11:10 PM
hasnt he not beaten a team with a .500 record yet or something though?Papelbon is insane and he's doing it under a lot of pressure...
7/2/2006 4:19:19 PM
^He is still shutting down major league players. The Brewers are a decent hitting club.Give him some credit.
7/2/2006 6:46:37 PM
i sure am glad i drafted hernandez in the 3rd round. that one's really paying off my staff era is like 5.something
7/2/2006 7:03:27 PM
3rd round? that was way too high for any 20 year old pitcher
7/2/2006 9:23:22 PM
ok just checked, 5th round and it was auto, but he was high up my list of pitchers. didn't think the learning curve would as huge as it is
7/2/2006 9:39:52 PM
7/3/2006 12:05:04 PM
he's on steroids
7/3/2006 1:57:42 PM
josh hamilton obviously
7/3/2006 3:38:20 PM
liriano was 1 out away from a shutout until rocco baldelli ruined itit woulda been 30 more points for the fantasy team[Edited on July 19, 2006 at 10:04 AM. Reason : asdfghj]
7/19/2006 10:04:29 AM
i have liriano on my fantasy team as well...you all are forgetting someone though, possibly the second best young prospect behind liriano...jon lester.he's 5-0 with a 2.39 era and still is walking a lot of guys...his control is gradually improving and his last game he gave up 1 hit and no runs in 8 innings. keep an eye on him (especially for fantasy leagues).
7/20/2006 1:16:29 AM
^ you are stupidlester is good and has potential butverlander, kazmir, and papelbon are way better
7/20/2006 10:21:47 PM
papelbon is 25rookie or not, he doesn't count
7/20/2006 10:30:34 PM
^and papelbon only throws one or two innings behind one of the strongest offensive lineups in baseball
7/21/2006 11:33:27 PM
Yeah, but those 1 or 2 innings are some of the most pressure packed, tough innings any pitcher will have to pitch in his career. Being the closer for the Boston Red Sox and performing like that is pretty damn impressive..
7/21/2006 11:35:43 PM
^agreedliriano is still the man this year and deserves rookie of the year and the Cy Younghe's 11-2, 1.98 ERA, and 115 Ks so far
7/22/2006 11:04:03 AM
^Cy Young will come down to him, Santana, Halladay, and MAYBE Papelbon, and MAYBE Mussina.Trouble is him and Johan being on the same team might take votes away from each other.
7/22/2006 11:07:02 AM
Johan: 11 wins 5 loses, 3.00 ERA, 152 Ks and 28 walks in 144 innings and 21 startsLiriano: 11 wins 2 loses, 1.94 ERA, 115 Ks and 26 walks in 102 innings and only 12 startsHalladay: 12 wins 2 loses, 3.08 ERA, 78 Ks and 18 walks in 143 innings and 20 starts(as of July 22nd, Liriano has a start tomorrow too)the American League Cy Young race will be tight this year
7/22/2006 11:27:22 AM
liriano is gonna crash down the stretch, my guess he'll end up with an ERA around 3.50, which is still good for the AL
7/22/2006 2:29:56 PM
i cant wait until he pitches against a team with a winning record
7/25/2006 12:32:15 AM
you cant bttt a thread thats over 90 days old
7/25/2006 2:50:56 AM
Brian I thought you had some baseball sense. Kazmir couldnt wash Liriano's jock.
7/25/2006 9:36:57 AM
Jered Weaver is finally starting to get some pub now too. Dude has won his first seven starts (granted some were against lackluster competition - Royals twice), but still he deserves mention as a possible ROY if Liriano slips at all.
7/25/2006 11:00:11 AM
^trui doubt if jered weaver will have a chance against Liriano (although both of their numbers are amazing)Weaver would probably be the rookie of the year any other yeari've been lucky to pick up liriano, weaver, and josh johnson this year on the fantasy teamjosh johnson is another good young pitcher and a definite NL rookie of the year contender[Edited on July 25, 2006 at 11:56 AM. Reason : asdf]
7/25/2006 11:55:53 AM
^ I've got Johnson and Liriano too, but missed the boat on Weaver. Johnson has been very consistent. I agree that he should be NL ROY if the season ended today.
