yeah, metallica is prob the worst case of a great band going downhill

i also strongly prefer older RHCP

Ben Folds Five got progressively worse with each album

the first two Alice in Chains albums are definitely the best

Pearl Jam's best effort was their debut, and they kinda lost their way after the 2nd album

Stone Temple Pilots' finest hour was their debut...the 2nd and 3rd albums aren't as good (debately which is better between those two, but probably the 2nd). after that, they started screwing things up

Van Halen>Van Hagar

Appetite For Destruction is the best GNR album, although they were on top of their game through the Use Your Illusion albums

i disagree about ben folds five completely. their second album was their strongest IMO and i think their first and third are close

the 2nd album has some of the best songs

but the 1st album is easily better on the whole. there are some really weak songs on the 2nd album, but not on the first (and there are several really strong songs on the first album)

some will argue that they were never good in the first place. but i went from loving OAR do downright loathing them over a period of time.

i completely disagree with this statement. i really liked ten when i was ten. but when i listen to it now i can't get into it. i still quite enjoy some of their later albums, especially No Code

but I STRONGLY agree with Weezer. their first two albums were good. the green album was an absolute disgrace and it just got worse from there.

i think weezer, metallica, and pearl jam are the three most obvious.

of course some people like what the band has become (see above post), but i think in general, most would agree they have gotten progressively worse as the years have gone by.

second on incubus

science was definitely best...i didn't think the next two sucked per se...but science was definitely best

a crow left of the murder was just horrible...i think i listened to it the first day i bought it and then enver listened to it again.

^i'm tempted to agree with you. the cold wind single was underwhelming, and it'll be nigh impossible to top Funeral.

I like make yourself so much more than S.C.I.E.N.C.E

but yeah, Weezer was just so damn good and now they're just so damn shitty. I would NEVER have thought that could happen after those first two albums

Speaking of Metallica, has anyone heard their new song? They've played it live a few times in Europe the last few weeks. There are some videos on youtube of it, but none of them are great quality.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-crxUFvZWso&search=Metallica%20new%20song

From what I can hear, it doesn't sound too bad

I was gonna say the pumpkins, but they peaked during the middle of their career and fell off with the later stuff. not a steady decline really.

a lot of these also fall under the topic "bands who were so good early on, they can do whatever the fuck they want and people still love them for it."

usually when that happens for me, it goes in the "bands that got progressively better" thread. (for instance radiohead, wilco, or bob dylan throughout the sixties).

I don't know if you could say that about them necessarily. They only ever had one good album (that they sold their souls to the devil to make), and it was like their 5th album or something like that. Though it did rock.

It's hard to say that RHCP has been getting worse. It's true...I like their older stuff better myself. But it's hard to say that they are getting worse because their style of music has changed.

However, Weezer, hands down, takes the prize. Even though they used to be my favorite band, I cry everytime Cuomo puts out a new album.

Metallica takes second.

I disagree. Their first album was good, and their second one I didn't dig on as much. But after the second one I started liking them a whole lot more.

Death in Vegas
Definitely RHCP. How many damn songs can you possibly write/sing about California???

Weezer definitely went down hill. ...and well Hopesfall, their not even the same band, and that band does suck now.

I've been listening to the RHCP FORever, and I personally think they get better with every album.
