those were the days. Now they have this bullshit you can't even skip past
6/20/2006 8:54:33 PM
that's why when that stuff starts playing, you hit Stop, then hit Menu.
6/20/2006 9:07:45 PM
i hate the ads so fucking muchif they are going to put them on there, they need to lower hte god damn proce of the dvd
6/20/2006 9:43:23 PM
the worse is that godamn piracy one. it's like am i not watching a dvd that i just bought??? assholes. yes theres shrink but still, that they think the best way to get to the people pirating shit is to show anti-pirating shit on some shit that's not pirated...damn that's alotta pirates and shits, i'm spent.
6/21/2006 12:55:53 AM
i never see that on my pirated movies
6/21/2006 1:34:54 AM
The piracy one is even better when you are watching it on a downloaded or pirated DVD.
6/21/2006 1:48:10 AM
^haha yeah
6/21/2006 3:13:44 AM
"you wouldnt rape a small child, so why you gonna pirate movies....it is against the law!!!"
6/21/2006 8:44:56 AM
Remember back when apostrophes never indicated something as plural?
6/21/2006 8:50:24 AM
"FACT: Hitler pirated movies. If you pirate movies, you are a Nazi and you hate freedom."
6/21/2006 8:51:25 AM
Remember when Beta Max was the wave of the future?
6/21/2006 9:39:33 AM
i don't own a orginal movie
6/21/2006 10:48:59 AM
beta was actually better
6/21/2006 10:50:00 AM
Beta is still the gold standard for video tape. It's never been about what's better, though. If that had been the case, laser discs would have taken the world by storm. I still wonder what made DVD's catch on.
6/21/2006 10:54:46 AM
They aren't bigger than a pizza
6/21/2006 11:26:17 AM
yeah, seems like portability is what made DVDs catch on as opposed to laser disc... i mean, you could store DVDs in your CD rack whereas laser discs required the old record storage boxes that nobody's used since the 70's
6/21/2006 11:30:24 AM
So laser disks are better than DVDs as far as quality? How so? (Actually asking this out of curiosity)I only had one laser disk experience, and this was back in the eighth grade during a social studies class. We watched some documentary that complimented out book "A More Perfect Union".
6/21/2006 11:53:55 AM
I don't think that they're better than DVD's, especially the newer ones. I was just saying that the reason VHS ruled as long and as hard as it did over Beta and Laser Discs is that it was cheaper.DVD's were more expensive and somehow managed to replace VHS, and I don't have an explanation as to why other than Vivid's "change the camera angle" feature in their porn. I don't think that alone has the mainstream appeal that could replace something as dominant as VHS was.
6/21/2006 12:02:24 PM
Haha maybe it is because you don't have to rewind a DVD.You know back in the day when I watched VHS all the time, the picture quality didn't look that bad. But now if I watch, it is almost unbearable compared to DVD.
6/21/2006 12:13:01 PM
You don't have to rewind a DVD and you can easily jump to chapters. DVD cases took up about 1/2 the space. DVDs don't wear out like VHS tapes. DVDs made watching movie extras (deleted scenes/commentary/behind the scenes/etc.) extremely easy. No more "head cleaners". Clean pause. Clean slow-mo/ffw. Etc. Etc.^beat me to it. They even sold special VHS rewinding machines to reduce the wear and tear on your VCR.[Edited on June 21, 2006 at 12:16 PM. Reason : -]

i'm curious to see what wins out between blu-ray and hd-dvdbut yeah, i fucking hate that there are previews on a dvd. If i'm paying for a personal copy of a movie or anything for that matter I shouldn't be subjected to a lifetime of advertising for doing so.[Edited on June 21, 2006 at 12:16 PM. Reason : ^ and ^^ covered most of what i said]

i love that the previews they use only make sense at the time... like when they say "coming soon to a theater near you" or even better "coming to DVD on July 24th!" and i'm watching the dvd like 2 years later.
6/21/2006 3:47:07 PM
6/22/2006 3:43:10 PM
I remember having laserdisc players in our school. We only had one or two, and they hardly ever worked.
6/22/2006 4:25:49 PM
6/22/2006 4:27:34 PM
My dvd player lets me chapter skip through previews and piracy warnings
6/22/2006 5:02:41 PM
I agree with this thread. I fucking hate ads. I mean, they have like 20 minutes of ads in the theater. They have a 5 minute commercial breaks for every 15 minutes of TV. They have ads after every song on the radio. THEY HAVE ADS ON FUCKING BILLBOARDS!!! THEY HAVE ADS EVERYWHERE ON THE INTERNET!!! THEY EVEN ARE STARTING TO PUT ADS IN THE GODDAMN VIDEO GAMES!!! When is this shit going to end? Can't they keep the ads for their stupid ass movies, most of which will flop out of the DVDs. Christ, is that so much to ask?
6/23/2006 10:44:13 AM
i raelly enjoy previews :x guess thats just me
6/23/2006 10:50:37 AM
i like previews in the movies. and i dont know what you mean, i havent heard ads on my radio in a year and a half.
6/23/2006 11:14:05 AM
speaking of this, is there a program that can rip pass the copyright protections on rented dvds? i tried DVD Decoder, but it wouldnt work.
6/23/2006 11:53:04 AM
Seriously though, do most people's dvd players not let them chapter skip through the piracy warnings, interpol bullshit, fbi retardedness, etc etc?
6/23/2006 11:54:54 AM
i think it might depend on the dvd itself. i recall being able to on some and not on others.
6/23/2006 1:42:14 PM
I have a laserdisc player if anyone wants it. I'll sell it cheap.
