Anybody own a home from KB or know anyone who does? I've heard good and bad things about them. Most of the bad things are in other cities, not around here. Just wondering if anybody's heard anything good or bad either way.

My husband and I have been looking at KB homes in Holly Springs.

I have noticed that a fair number of them have been showing up for rent on Craigslist. I don't know if that means that people aren't really enjoying their homes or if it's young couples moving out of their starter homes or business relocation.

I'll say one thing...go into the attic, and notice the used, shitty building materials..then get back to me. YOU PAY FULL PRICE FOR MATERIAL and they go and purchase it USED....which means it was cleaned up off of other construction sites...so its scrap wood, but hey, you make your own assumptions.

The other one I was wondering about was HomeLife Communities. They say they offer affordable homes at great prices, but I'm wondering if that's to low-income families or cheaply built or what.

A couple I know owns one in Cary that they just moved in in December. They haven't had any complaints so far and plan on staying there. It's a beautiful house, I just don't like how KB Homes positioned them all within feet of eachother with bathtub sized yards.

KB is awful. Cheap construction. They used to have a website like kbsucks.com but believe it was taken down. Buy an Energy Star home from Anderson Homes. Save 30% off utilities. 3rd party consultant to verify.

One website http://www.kbhomestink.org/

My wife & I are building a home with them in Bingham Station. I know their homes are not the highest quality, but I do know that they are cheaper than buying similar exhisting houses around here.

I looked at Homelife Communities as well & you can expect similar things from them, BUT you really can't pick much options or actual home sites from them. They are ghetto also.

I do like the options KB gives you to put in your home & their prices of the options are not great, but they're still very reasonable.

Also, they will give you a 1500 credit if you have anything to do with teaching (even a grad student/TA) or some other things. I also got them to come down 1000 on the lot premium. Another thing of note is that they have increased their prices a few thousand over the last few months.

Beware that their standard options though are hideous & suck. You are going to want to spend another 20k at least in upgrades.

From what I've seen, basically every house built in the last 10 years is crap. I would be scared to take a 30 year mortgage out on the houses I've seen built.

If you want a quality built home you need an individual builder. The houses are great brand new but living in them a short term really wears them down. If you can get an agent to find an older KB Home on the market and you'll see what I mean... the walls are paper thin, materials are cheap and break, etc. They have advertising and quantity to offset the lack of quality in their homes. A builder relies on reputation and just a couple poor building jobs can put him out of business. You really do get what you pay for. I'd rather buy older than buy a new corporate builder home (like KB, M/I, etc). Of course if it is all you can afford then its like you are buying a money pit. They are definitely fine for a starter home.

I bought a Condo back in Feb. at Bryarton Village off of Tryon near Crossroads. These places are made by Bill Clark Homes and are pretty nice. I would recomend these places. It's a good investment!!!!

I would go with Ashley Turner Building Co, they are local, and they will build to your price range, having worked with and for them I know the quality of the homes, and i know the quality of Ashley, he is a great, honest man who will work with you to get what you want done.

Call Amelia Pleasant, http://www.johnstonconorthcarolina.com/. She's great! She does most of their sales, along with Brandie!

Haha, oh wow.

I have lived in a Ryan Home before and I have no plans to ever do it again. Everyone I have talked to who has dealt with Ryan Homes seems to feel the same way.

Oh, and there are nationwide complaints (and lawsuits) too:
