buy a cheap dell, add a good video card.

what are you up to nowadays?

Dell is not acceptable... I have a nice case that I would like to reuse, and I have 6 hard drives, for different reasons. I also need a serial port for a null modem that I use on a monthly basis. I know some of you guys know a good board to get... just point me in the right direction please.

Oh yeah, I'm managing the landscape division of a horticulture company.

dell stopped putting out good barebones systems when they killed the 400sc

so you want a barebones without a case?So you just want part recommendations?

if you dont care about oc'ing, forget intel. go with a 3700+ A64 sandiego and a dfi lanparty or asus board with an nf4 chipset.

^yeah.Motherboardhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131022WITHSingle-Corehttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103631ORDual-Corehttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103735But, I would probably wait a little bit for more motherboards are made to really do this. AM2 is the best platform in my opinion right now, because it looks like they will have around for a while and Intel chipset only last a few weeks it seems. Hopefully it will last longer than 939.I would just get some standard Crucial DDR2 800 RAM, especially if you're not a speed demon.

I'd rather go with 939 instead of AM2 for cheaper ddr ram and sandiego (1mb l2 cache)
