6/16/2006 11:19:36 PM
sorry dude that was an example of dnl padding a thread
6/16/2006 11:21:37 PM
interesting
6/17/2006 9:23:09 AM
ive got referrals to virtual bank, it pays $20 and a higher interest rate
6/17/2006 2:20:46 PM
so is there a catch with these ing direct savings accounts? 4.25% on a savings account seems too good to be true
6/17/2006 11:08:50 PM
no catch, its just online so the overhead is much lower
6/17/2006 11:16:22 PM
yup, it is strictly online. So they don't have to pay for all hte buildings and shit and its a lot cheaper for them to do business. They only allow your initial deposit to be from a mailed check. Everything after that is online. So you have to have an account at a bank where you can deposit the money and then transfer it to the ing account. It's great . . . my old savings account didn't earn me hardly any interest. I've made like $20 having an account for only a month or so.
6/17/2006 11:21:18 PM
my initial deposit was not from a mailed check... it was straight from my checking account online. there are a few other online savings accounts online that offer higher than ING's rate. but i like INGs website and setup a little bit better than some others.

Sounds good. Wachovia has what, 1.5% for the savings account?
6/18/2006 11:44:48 AM
^ I think it's a LOT less. like .25 % not 1.25%I'm not entirely sure. shamefully i'm sttill with them *needs to switch darn it*

so if someone steals all your money because your account was hacked through the site, do they have insurance to cover it or are you SOL...
6/18/2006 8:38:32 PM
uhhmaybe if it is your ING account thier insurance will cover itif someone uses your name/ssn on some other accountgood luck ...
6/18/2006 8:49:15 PM
thats a very good question sir. I know they are FDIC insured, but I think that just covers your money if the bank goes under.I don't see a direct answer on the website either. Are you talking along the lines of someone accessing your account and just taking the money from the account, or are you talking about them getting your info from the site and running up a bunch of credit on your SSN?
6/18/2006 8:56:01 PM
Are there any other fees related to this account? I couldn't really find it on the website.
6/19/2006 11:00:23 AM
^ nope, it's all free.
6/19/2006 11:12:43 AM
just to clarify - ING is not "just another online bank". It is a huge company based in The Netherlands. The ING Group was formed in 1991 from a big merger of other financial companies dating back to the 1840s. In The Netherlands and other parts of Europe, they are a traditional "bricks and morter" company with buildings and offices and local branches and whatnot. http://www.ing.com/group/showdoc.jsp?docid=074177_ENI was in Amsterdam over the weekend, and ING advertisements are everywhere and the occasional bank or building (though not as much as other Dutch banks, like Rabobank)ING DIRECT and ING DIRECT USA are smaller subsidiaries that offer online and telephone access to banks, but they are still backed by the much larger ING Group.https://home.ingdirect.com/about/about.asp

8/24/2006 9:30:41 AM
i'm going to open up an account when i get 250 bucks, prolly around 3 more weeks or so
8/24/2006 1:27:25 PM
HSBC, Citibank, and emigrantdirect offer a better interest rate right now.
8/24/2006 1:33:06 PM
but the interface at Emigrant is so dreadful it's worth the lower interest rate to go ING.and I have referrals, too.I'm cooler than most of these other schmucks, so use mine.
8/24/2006 2:56:42 PM
^ what can you do on the ING site that you can't on the ED site? It's not pretty, but it works exactly the same. I would hardly say that the 5 minutes per month I will spend looking at the site is worth PAYING for... ED has always been very prompt w/transfers and such too.my money is with citi right now. free $200!![Edited on August 24, 2006 at 3:09 PM. Reason : d]
8/24/2006 3:09:02 PM

8/24/2006 3:53:21 PM
8/24/2006 4:14:27 PM
^^ yes, they're still giving away $200. Gotta use a promo code. gotta use google to get that promo code.
8/24/2006 4:19:31 PM
I'm gonna cause another mini riot on here - I'm about to open an account. Since I want to do it this afternoon, I'm not trying to find people previously on the thread. First one who sends me a PM will get the referral. And we have a winner. ShawnaC123 is the winner by 3 minutes.[Edited on October 1, 2006 at 4:53 PM. Reason : update]
