heard a lot today about the specifics of some of the laws...like when you can use deadly force legally in north carolina and what not...florida has some law that excuses someone from any civil or criminal liability if they kill an intruder in their own home or some place they're supposed to be...in north carolina, even if someone breaks into your house with the intention of killing you, and you kill them, you'll be paying $500,000 in legal fees just to get off...anybody have any discussion any more intelligent than this ^moron?

A lawsuit should be anticipated if it happens in public. In your home, the chances are less that charges would be filed.

Whats the fine if you're caught with a concealed weapon and don't have a concealed weapon permit? On the other hand, what can they do to you if you have a visible holstered gun on your belt?

^1. I THINK, but I'm not sure either, that it's not a felony. However, if you DO have a CCP and get caught in violatin of pretty much anything, it's a felony.2. it depends on where you're at and if anyone is bothered by it, I think.I'm not 100% of either of those, though, because while I have several firearms, I never conceal them illegally or walk around with my .45 on my side.

where is the law that you can get charged for having a pistol on your hip? if you're waving it around or something, then you are in trouble. carrying one in plain sight is not an uncommon thing, especially during hunting season or if someone is working in the woods in hot weather when the snakes are out. it's not something you see all the time, but I've seen it a good many times. there are a lot of places where firearms are prohibited though, so people should know the law before carrying a gun.

A lot of pressure has been put on me to get a concealed carry permit so I'm training myself for that (before I begin to take classes - I'd rather teach myself as much as possible before spending money for target practice). But the main reason I'd want to get a NC concealed carry is to be able to purchase firearms whenever I want to. Typically one has to go through the red tape for a permit, and each one costs a certain amount. Depending on how many weapons you want to purchase, this can be awefully costly (in time as well). If you walk up to a gun dealer with a conceal carry, this indicates you have already gone through the red tape, and with one lump sum on that type of permit, you immediately qualify for firearm purchase. This appeals to me a lot because of Winchester Firearms Co. going out of business back in March, and there's a lot of folks trying to sell off their rifles when the price is going through the roof over the counter. Taking down their driver's lisence info, address and phone number, I can buy a rifle as personal property and resell it for over twice the amount, at times.Other than the business end of things, I've had discussions with officers all over the state and most agree that a concealed carry permit is useless, except to get a "warm fuzzy." I have no idea what that's supposed to mean but I imagine guys feel a little macho with the lump against your hip and nobody knows... If I didn't have plans to acquire equity in firearms in the future, I'd just go ahead and get a pistol to carry along in the car and lay it out on the dash somewhere. As a woman out in the country, alone during the day, I'd like some protection but hiding it won't be any more helpful (intimidation/warning is the majority of the job, as the officer told me). Although NC concealed carry permits are valid in many other states because of the rigorous background check (again, hearsay), you still can't carry firearms on state/gov't property, in grocery stores, businesses, etc. The cop asked me where I planned to take it, and he pretty much narrowed it down to walking down the street or driving in your car. So I don't know if it's worth it, because it is expensive.BTW for anyone interested in the legalities of having an concealed pistol, I was also told you are legally required to inform an officer of it if you are pulled over.Three more clarifications:1. To legally sell firearms you need an Federal Firearms License.2. The conceal carry is fine for around the home but unnecessary.3. Training to get the conceal carry will reveal more legalities behind its use.]]

I thought about getting a pistol after seeing a guy get shot. I had just pulled into a gas station and the gunman then turned and ran towards me. I decided not to however because I'm too lazy and they are pretty expensive.
6/17/2006 12:37:06 PM
basically, if it's somewhere that you might want to be armed, you're not allowed to CC.
6/17/2006 1:48:37 PM
So if I wanted to carry...say an AR-15, in public. Could that be possible? Not the fully auto-mod.B/c it is only a rifle. But many people get away with having the automatic versions.[Edited on June 17, 2006 at 2:26 PM. Reason : .]

You can have 'em, but I don't know if you can carry 'em, lol.
6/17/2006 5:12:27 PM
I don't see why you couldn't carry it on a gun rack in your truck.
6/17/2006 5:20:50 PM
I imagine there's some legal difference between transporting a weapon and wearing it on your person in a gas station.
6/17/2006 5:21:31 PM
ease of transporting is actually one big reason i'll prob get a CCP one of these days.

^Thats not necesarily true...An average schmoe cannot have a CC in NY but with a little ingenuity almost anyone can get one. Bankers, for instance who can prove that they have the need or necesity to conceal a weapon due to the fragile and vulnerable nature of their business may receive a CC permit. Corections officers, anyone who is employed by state or county as well. There are a lot of loop holes. I only know this to be true for NY not for the others.BTW: NY crime rates are lower than durham-i think with "anywhere you want you can't have" he was refering to places like banks, downtown areas, shopping malls, state property, w/e[Edited on June 18, 2006 at 2:22 AM. I wouldn't have a problem with someone carrying a firearm with them. My only thing is if someone gets a CCP, goes through the steps and training and then commits a crime using that weapon then they should be hung by their thumbs.
6/18/2006 11:29:00 AM
chances are the wouldn't:A) because usually somone who would comit a violent crime would not be able to get a CC. They are very particular in giving these out.B) Very seldom anyone with a permit comits a crime with the weapon because the gun, prints, shells, everything about it is registered and you would surely be caught
6/18/2006 12:18:38 PM
yep, it is almost unheard of for someone with a CCP to commit a violent crime.and the penalties for any sort of firearms infraction are much stiffer if you have a CCP. even the minor stuff is pretty much automatically felony (things that would be small time if you didn't have the CCP)
6/18/2006 2:04:23 PM
^In any state with CC, CCP holders will, in any given year, be convicted of fewer violent crimes than the police officers of that state. They're the safest group of people out there by far. Most states go years without a single CCer committing a violent crime.
6/18/2006 3:57:25 PM
CCPs are for people that realize the criminal justice system is worthlessAlso technically you can walk down the street with any long gun (rifle or shotgun) in a sling or over your shoulder, etc. You can also walk down the street with a holstered handgun...you might be arrested and hassled but its legal for you to do soand in North Carolina, handgun permits are permits-to-buy, not permits-to-own...so you get your handgun permit after background check with sheriff...take it to a gun shop, give them the permit, you get a handgun...the only information the FBI databases have about handguns are if they were legally bought or if they were declared stolen
6/18/2006 6:53:55 PM
I took the class last week. I'm totally pro-CC, although i think they need be less restrictive on where it can be carried by law abiding citizens. Example: You can't carry anywhere that admission is charged; so if I want to go to the dolla fiddy I better hope that shit don't go down in the parking lot on the way back to my car.Example: You can't carry anywhere that sales AND consumption of alcohol takes place. So, if I go to Ruby Tuesday's, even if I'm not drinking, I better hope shit don't go down in the restaurant or in the parking lot on my way in/out.And so on.
