whats the problem??
6/16/2006 7:06:12 AM
cool, not a big fan of bush, but nice to see something like that done
6/16/2006 7:09:19 AM
I was picturing a retirement home for soldiers or something. Then I saw a picture of fish, and I was like "oh..."
6/16/2006 7:23:06 AM
LOL too bad Hawaii is about to secede
6/16/2006 7:23:29 AM
I thought this tread was going to be about pulling out of Iraq.
6/16/2006 7:46:35 AM
I just wanted to see if the ultra-liberals could muster up a problem with this, because they generally have a distaste to the nth degree for anything Bush does.Good to see people around here give credit when its due.
6/16/2006 8:50:48 AM
well, like i just said, it shouldn't really get that much praise because Hawaii is on track to declare independence in the next 10 years or so anyway
6/16/2006 8:58:45 AM

6/16/2006 10:01:16 AM
What a waste of money
6/16/2006 10:12:05 AM
there will be no civil war; they are following the proper legislative and judicial procedures
6/16/2006 10:12:12 AM
well since they created this new marine sanctuary, they can now drill in alaska
6/16/2006 10:58:18 AM
we'd need another state though, 49 isnt a nice rounded number. perhaps PR.
6/16/2006 11:27:45 AM
Now it'll be that much more fun for Bush when he drills for oil in the coral reefs.
6/16/2006 11:32:56 AM
6/16/2006 11:43:46 AM
split California in 2
6/16/2006 12:31:41 PM
they are just going to lure whales into the marine sancutary and then drill the whales for their precious whale oil.
6/16/2006 12:42:18 PM
I'm reminded of a Chris Rock bit, which I won't repeat here. The punchline is "What, you want a cookie?"

They just roped off some god-forsaken territory in the middle of nowhere that only natives(read "indians") cared about for fishing. It's a political no-brainer in any decade, whether the president is Teddy Roosevelt or Bush. I don't really give a fuck about it either way.
6/16/2006 7:35:24 PM
I thought that this was going to be about Haditha being turned into a sanctuary where marines can't be prosecuted.
6/16/2006 8:48:55 PM
6/16/2006 11:48:04 PM
I assume BUSH did some sort of survey to see if any minerals or oil were there first...also, on the news it looked like an old landfill with bottles and shit everyone...thanks Bush

6/18/2006 2:01:44 AM
so you say
6/18/2006 6:42:49 AM
If Bill Clinton had done somthing like this you liberals would be licking his balls harder than Monica
6/18/2006 8:16:24 AM
CLINTON COULD'VE DID IT
6/18/2006 10:43:08 AM
6/18/2006 10:55:32 AM
Political pandering is political pandering. I doubt this move would have helped either president.
6/18/2006 11:02:14 AM
at least he's making some place to put all the bodies from iraq
6/19/2006 1:00:42 AM
I thought this thread was about marines

This is something that should have been done a long time ago and has not been given much attention. Not to mention it is one of the last few areas that has maintained biodiversity with (relatively) little loss over the last several generations. This was something that any president could have done, but finally this adminstration. The economic importance of small artisanal fisheries for lobsters is very insignificant, thus making this a little easier. This comes as very good news for some of the people I work with here in Miami and the NOAA labs here who did extensive reef surveys in the Dry Tortugas and have been funded to conduct similar surveys in the NW Hawaiian Islands.[Edited on June 19, 2006 at 3:50 PM.
