http://www.dslreports.com/gmaps/fios?typ=sWhat? I don't get why Verizon isn't coming here soon/next? Does this not make sense?

maybe that area is a major hop between the florida area and MAE East
6/13/2006 1:32:57 PM
atlanta doesn'thave it yet either. go figure.

Verizon isn't installing fiber in the Triangle because they don't provide local phone service in the triangle. If you want fiber, you're at the mercy of Bell South.

i'd be suprised if bellsouth rolled it out before the sale to at&t was finalized - bellsouth doesn't have a completed/near completed fiber solution like at&t and verizon do
6/13/2006 2:44:10 PM
Umm, but FiOS does phone too. Maybe I don't understand the fundamentals (connection of their fiber to POTS?), but them not doing local phone now doesn't seem like a barrier. Seems like more of an incentive to move in with fiber, and thus, phone service.
6/13/2006 2:48:49 PM
the same reason that if you want cable then you get time warner - there isn't really an option for comcast/insight/etc in raleigh
6/13/2006 2:53:03 PM
Huh? FiOS does all that.
6/13/2006 2:59:45 PM
he's saying that bellsouth is the only option, like timewarner isbellsouth doesn't have fios[Edited on June 13, 2006 at 3:01 PM. Reason : .]

So I'm definitely ignorant, what prevents Verizon from coming into this market and laying the fiber? Did they already have copper/poles in these other markets, already fiber, or what? Why are they there first rather than here?
6/13/2006 4:37:03 PM
cities, towns, counties and municipalities sign agreements for those sort of services. phone, cable, etc.time warner is the one that services most of the region, as is bellsouth.until the town or county or whatever comes to an agreement with another, it doesn't happen.
6/13/2006 4:46:37 PM
yay, fiber ont's!
6/13/2006 6:41:36 PM
The triangle area already laid fiber.FYI.
