I realize it depends on the model, but what is the typical weight reduction people see when they strip their interior for track/whatever purpose. Personally, it seems like all that stuff doesnt weigh that much. Say you take out passenger and rear seats, parts of the dashboard, carpet, spare, doors and certain trunk parts. I cant see this being more than 200lbs?[Edited on June 12, 2006 at 4:27 PM. Reason : doh]

*weighand yeah for the most part it looks pretty f'ing pointless to me unless it's really going to be a track only car. the weight savings really doesn't look anymore significant than your average skinny asian kid vs. a fatass

every little bit helps200lbs can be anywhere from 6-10 percent weight reduction on small cars.
6/12/2006 4:28:02 PM
^my thoughts exactly, but i guess it could be deceiving how much weight there is in all the interior
6/12/2006 4:28:50 PM
if you are going to strip interior, you better get rid of everything. seats, carpet, panels, sound deadening. keep one seat in there. a touring seat for everyday driving is good, but stick with the stock seat

My maxima's carpet probably weighed in at 60lbs. According to the listed online vehilce weight vs. what the scales at the scrap yard say, I have lost about 300lbs from my gutting the interior. That equates to about an 8.5% reduction.

sound deadening shit under the carpet and in the doors of some cars weights a good bit. seats too.
6/12/2006 11:51:48 PM
even if you strip a slow car, it is still SLOW
6/12/2006 11:56:36 PM
^ I hope that isn't reffering to me and my car. If so, you are getting as bad as 69
6/13/2006 12:02:01 AM
i wasnt referring to your car, but your car does fall in that category.

I wouldn't judge how much weight you've taken off by just doing an 'after' weigh in at a scale. I've seen (stock) cars weigh in at hundreds of pounds less than what they should've, judging by the published data.Ahmet
6/13/2006 12:29:18 AM
yeah they don't tell you how much power windows weigh or other things of that sort
6/13/2006 12:32:05 AM
^While you're at it take out the air conditioning, spare tire, stereo. It does all add up and make a difference at the track, but I bet you wouldn't want tobe cruising around town in a stripped down, non-air conditioned car, with no tunes all day long.

nah, me either. i remember reading an article in SCC where they stripped a bonestock 200SX and went from a 17 sec. 1/4 mile time to a 14. pretty impressive.
6/13/2006 9:08:11 AM
was that the one where they cut the roof off and it was just one seat and a motor?shit was funny
6/13/2006 9:24:30 AM
i think the power window units in my jeep weigh around 3 lbs each... it doesn't seem like much but 12 lbs matters. and if you're pulling them out you might as well make lexan window and save an ass-ton of weight.the spare tire should be the first thing anyone ditches along with the jack etc.thats a big hunk of weight right there.stock seats-> racing seats helps (ditch the rear)after market exhausts can save 15-30lbsi think you'd get 200lbs easy if you are thorough in your efforts especially if you do the windows
6/13/2006 9:29:21 AM
i had my integra at 2100 lbs. (weighed at the dump, not sure how accurate)lightweight wheels, sparco seat, no interior at all (except sunroof), no AC, and other shizzle.
6/13/2006 9:42:46 AM
^ yeah and WHEEL/TIRE packages make a very very big differenceshed all the weight you can there
6/13/2006 9:50:14 AM
unsprung weight savings >> sprung weight savings
6/13/2006 9:54:47 AM
^ this is troo but rotational weight savings is also>>> than a-arms etc.

i've always heard a 100lb reduction in weight equates to a .1 second quicker quarter mile
6/13/2006 7:56:42 PM
^ hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, so a hundred pounds on a drag bike, is equivilant to a hundred pounds on a 57 chevy?
6/13/2006 9:29:06 PM
6/13/2006 9:30:54 PM
fuck that shit, i roll out with 400 pounds of tools in my interior, another 4-500 in the back, the ac blasting, enjoying my power steering, and trying not to crap my pants from all that chevy powwwwwwweeeeeeeerrrrrrrrr niggas
6/13/2006 9:57:06 PM
^so you want a cookie or what?
6/13/2006 10:15:07 PM
^ let this guy install the interior for you, he'll leave all the nuts loose and it will just fall out
6/13/2006 10:20:32 PM
I just took another 50 lbs today.
6/13/2006 10:41:08 PM
