damn, sounds pretty serious. time for cowher to expedite his retirement.
6/12/2006 12:27:08 PM
^^yea i know, if i was making that much money, i could wait a few years to ride my bike.
6/12/2006 12:27:52 PM
cnn just talked about itsports franchises need to ban motorcycles
6/12/2006 12:28:19 PM
Kellen Winslowsberger Jr.
6/12/2006 12:30:00 PM
Sports franchises pretty much do ban motorcycles. See Jason Williams & Kellen Winslow.[Edited on June 12, 2006 at 12:31 PM. Reason : ]

6/12/2006 12:33:42 PM
^^Winslow's contract included a clause for bikes and as a result he got a small percentage of his contract the year he was injured from his bike accident
6/12/2006 12:37:50 PM
i actually hope he's okayhe's a complete moron for not wearing a helmet though
6/12/2006 12:40:15 PM
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
6/12/2006 12:40:23 PM
yeah it should pretty much be in any contract for sports, if you get hurt outside of the sport doing anything unnecessarily dangerous, your contract is at that point void.
6/12/2006 12:40:40 PM
there evidently was a huge controversy over it earlier last month when pictures sufaced of him not wearing a helmet.
6/12/2006 12:43:33 PM
espn is reporting the injuries are non-life threatening.based on past motorcycle crashes though (jay williams, bobby hurley, etc) i don't see him playing again for at least this season. god damnit.^that was may of last year.[Edited on June 12, 2006 at 12:44 PM. Reason : ]

eyewitness accounts report that he tried to get up and walk but was bleeding from the head... maybe he'll be alright. he's a dumbass, that's for sure.^ ah didn't catch that. he's still a dumb motherfucker[Edited on June 12, 2006 at 12:46 PM. Reason : yep, still a motherfucker]
6/12/2006 12:45:22 PM
yeah they said he was thrown from the bike and hit his head on the windshield of the car. was concious but disoriented. (espn article)http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2480830here's a dif article:http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm

6/12/2006 1:17:22 PM
WHO IS LINED UP FOR 12/17
6/12/2006 1:25:09 PM
I highly doubt it
6/12/2006 1:25:44 PM
PANTHERS! I'm sure the cats will win w/ or w/o ben there, i just don't want to hear "well, if big ben wasn't hurt........"
6/12/2006 1:26:58 PM
ahahahahawhat a dumb fucktime to call my steeler fans and talk nonsense
6/12/2006 1:29:45 PM
so he plays football with a helmet but won't go 70 mph on a bike with onemakes sense
6/12/2006 1:31:33 PM
^^^yeah bullshit, like you wouldn't talk about not having steve smith or jake delhomme.ben is in surgery right now. sounds like a possible broken jaw, surgery could be to wire it shut maybe.hospital is reporting that he's in serious but stable condition.[Edited on June 12, 2006 at 1:50 PM. if its only a broken jaw, steelers should consider themselves lucky. I hope he's back by Dec. I've been looking forward to beating the champs since the schedule came out, but beating them w/o him wouldn't be as satisfying.
6/12/2006 2:03:15 PM
6/12/2006 2:23:48 PM
Just heard on the radio that he had "a broken jaw, missing teeth and other serious facial injuries", but its not life threatening. bad for him but good for fans, he doesn't need to be pretty to play.

6/12/2006 3:03:07 PM
i dont think it's a question on whether or not he should wear a helmet. it should be whether or not he rides a motorcycle. even wearing a helmet this accident would have been potentially fatal. riding with a helmet is dangerous as well, and i don't think he should be allowed to ride at all.assuming he comes back from this, i doubt cowher/rooney will allow him to continue riding. he really doesn't have a case against them anymore now, and maybe he'll wise up and agree.and if the reports about severe injuries to both knees are accurate, then his season and maybe career are indeed in danger of being over. i guess it depends on what "severe" means in this case.[Edited on June 12, 2006 at 3:04 PM. i'll preface this by saying i think he should have been wearing a helmet, because i live by the "better safe than sorry" rule, but:1) there is no law in Pittsburgh saying he has to wear a helmet2) he has no specific clause in his contract saying he is not allowed to ride a motorcycle3) cowher never told him he shouldn't ride, just to be safei'm sure plenty of you guys on here do things you shouldn't do (whether legal or not) just because you like doing it. if he enjoys riding a bike (even if it is without a helmet) and it's all on the up and up...he's really not doing anything wrong. yeah he's being risky, but we all are to some degree. i don't know how necessary all this flack is. obviously he didn't want this to happen, and now that is has (and i hope everything turns out ok) i'm sure he'll take some new precautions.
6/12/2006 3:15:25 PM
^^prophetic and a year to the day old.
6/12/2006 3:19:57 PM
cowher told him he didn't like him riding. obviously to keep the peace he wasn't any more forceful than that, but you can be sure that won't be the case anymore.and just for the record. cowhers oldest daughter used to get a ride to school (princeton) on the back of a motorcycle, but after all the stuff with winslow and other injuries came out, and the roethlisberger discussion, he forbid his daughter to continue this.so you can see where he stands.

crotch rockets are faster than harleyssure you can wreck on either onebut i mean, crotch rockets are inherently more dangerous
6/12/2006 3:27:23 PM
^^^right, but they obviously don't prohibit them from doing so. ben has said in interviews that he does it because it relaxes him. the accident was in downtown pittsburgh, not out on some country road where he was going 100 mph and popping wheelies. nobody really knows the details of what happened, so what if it was just a simple traffic violation gone bad? my point is that it doesn't seem like he was acting irresponsibly by riding a motorcycle. my guess is that more athletes act irresponsibly when driving their cars then he probably did on his bike. it's just unfortunate that this happened.[Edited on June 12, 2006 at 3:29 PM.
