Basically I have no fucking clue as to what the hell I am doing. I need to set up ultravnc or something similar to be able to log into my office computer. I just can't figure out what goes where, and what to install. All the shit on sourceforge is kind of confusing, and I am a goddam n00b when it comes to anything that's not point-and-click install.I know I need to forward port 3389 on the office computer. I have hamachi set up on both boxes, and I swap files regularly between the two.BUT I NEED MORE, DAMMIT!

Better hope omarbadu doesn't see this. You're sure to be called an idiot for asking a question here.

nah zxappeal is a smart guy - he is asking valid questions - plus sutton said he's a good guy so that helps

it's not 3389, that's for microsoft, not vnc.it's ports 5800-5802 and 5900-5902

I'd recommend tight vnc.http://www.tightvnc.com/download.htmlHas pretty good instructions, but shoot me an IM/PM if something doesn't make sense.

I can't connect to mine at home. I'm at the office right now. I'm able to browse using hamachi, but I can't connect with mine. What I can't remember is if I have my computer at home set up to do remote access in WinXP. Does that matter?
6/6/2006 4:53:46 PM
it can cause conflicts, but only after connection is made.
6/6/2006 4:59:29 PM
I can't even connect period. I'll have to try the other way around when I get home.I have both the VNC viewer running in listen mode and the WinVNC server running on both machines.I type in my hamachi-assigned address for my home computer in when I go to set up a new connection. I get a "Failed to connect" error every time.

Alright. When I'm at the office, I can log into my computer at home. When I'm at home, I can't log into my computer here.I've forwarded all the ports like I think I need to do.

running firewall like zonealarm? remember that hamachi comes up as a whole new network adapter, and sometimes you have to enable it as "trusted" in order for your firewall to let it in
7/11/2006 6:11:45 PM
No firewall other than hardware (router) and Windows Firewall. And I believe that Windows Firewall is configured for Hamachi.

check on it...that was the one problem i had with the whole setup - kept looking for it in programs, when it was showing up in network adapters...good luck with it
