I'm looking for a simple, cheap gym in the area for strength training. I don't need a frillynilly gym with yoga racquetball and pilates, just a box with freeweights and meatheads. maybe a blender for protein shakes. the idea here is to keep cost as low as possible, because I can't really afford it in the first place...any suggestions?

If you're no longer a student, Beyond Fitness' $100 thing is cheaper than State's gym last I checked. Then again, if you want to do anything other than lifting weights and using using elliptical machines, treadmills, or aerobics, then you get a lot more for the money at State's gym.[Edited on June 2, 2006 at 5:55 PM. that Golds Gym in Raleigh is freaking awesome. all the cardio machines have tvs on them, kinda funny. Way too much money though and they have way too much stuff. If its true and you can get $100 at Beyond Fitness, that''s got to be the way to go, unless you are still close to the State Gym which is decent for just $120.

I just joined the central YMCA on Hillsborough and it has a shit-ton more stuff than any other health club Ive been a member of. The mens locker room is the size of the Wilmington YMCA.
