is it worht the extra cost? technically, how much faster is it? is it like t1 or something? how much more is it?
6/2/2006 12:15:55 AM
do you even know what a damn t1 is?no its not worth the extra cost to you
6/2/2006 12:30:25 AM
Well, as they say, regular is max 5 megs down, this is max 8 megs down. They include home networking. Its $40 more when purchased alone. So basically, you are paying twice as much, for less than twice as much bandwidth. T1 isn't as fast on a per-computer basis as even regular cable Intarweb. You are much better with just regular cable Intarweb.

even then, you forget about the "Shared" bandwidth. Don't listen to the crap that they tell you that you have a "dedicated" bandwidth or shit like that. I work for an isp. Your CIR with the 3MB is usually only about a meg and a half at most, depending on how many other people share the pipe with you. Yes going up to 8 mb will increase your bandwidth slightly, which might be good if you're downloading a ton of shit all the time, but for 40 bucks more? totally not worth it.

So how long till they reduce the regular service to 3 megs down to make their 8 megs down package more attractive?
6/2/2006 9:03:10 AM
^ they won't considering that they bumped everyone to 5 a few years back for free
6/2/2006 10:31:08 AM
they kept trying to sell it to me when all I wanted was basic cable so I could use my qam tuner. I was like LADY I HAVE A PARTIAL DS3. I HAVE OVER 22 MEGABITS, FOR FREE. CAN YOU DO BETTER?"well I do know its over five times faster than regular road runner"*click*
6/2/2006 10:53:27 AM
so whats the best solution when your regular road runner cable is slow as heck? i mean im pretty sure we share it with a ton of people (N. Raleigh) but its horrible beyond belief... esp. compared to the dorms
6/2/2006 1:13:57 PM
^ move.
6/2/2006 1:28:02 PM
I downgraded to road runner lite. I queue most file transfers anyway, and it hardly affects browsing. The main time I notice a difference is when I'm on a terminal server connection to my home machine. The 128kbps or whatever bogs down on image painting. I figure if I ever need, it only takes a phone call and 5 mins to bump it back up. $24.95/mo for 128/768
6/2/2006 2:39:06 PM
so whats the deal with ovaltine?
6/2/2006 3:01:12 PM
http://www.timewarnercable.com/piedmonttriad/products/internet/speedtest.htmlUse the above link to test your bandwidth. If you see good speed, consider deleting your browser cache and installing some spyware removers.
6/2/2006 3:11:16 PM
Your connection speed:10968kbps
6/2/2006 3:44:58 PM
toss me some of that smooth
6/2/2006 5:11:07 PM

i play 360 and have never been able to host a room in an fps. also get lag when im on the pc at the same time.
6/3/2006 8:27:48 PM
Got unsecured wireless? I've had some leechers before that were d/l-ing torrents or some high-speed shit and it lagged my connection. Then WPA just happened to turn on. Hate that.Just something to check if you haven't already.
6/3/2006 9:10:16 PM
how can i put a key to keep leechers away?
6/3/2006 9:35:22 PM
surf into your router and find the WPA section and turn it on. It will ask you for a key, make one up.
6/3/2006 10:15:41 PM
^bingo. What kind of router do you have?
6/3/2006 10:40:49 PM
I get around 4.5Mbps up in the Stonehenge area of North Raleigh.. many things can cause a slow connection.. if you have roommates who download stuff constantly, that'll do it.. also try recycling the power on your router every once in a while.. I found that resetting it tends to clear things up.
