Not much time to discuss now, but I'm playing fantasy baseball. I suck at it, but mainly only play to keep up with same people on message board that I play fant. football with.I am in last now. 8 teams and 6 make the playoffs. A few on there have talked some shit, and I told them that its ridiculous to have something that goes on every day for so long to only eliminate 2 teams after the reg. season. I said, well my goal is to finish 6th or higher and then make a run in the playoffs.Anyway, just looking for some help, if someone wanted to email me, or we could discuss here. Like I say, not a lot of time now, but I can list my roster, etc. later.Couple things I have....Prior and Derek Lee who might eventually be healthy. Clemens who just signed with Astros. Also picked up Hamels who is supposed to be pretty good and he's injured too. Any help would be appreciated.

I just picked up Ian Kinsler (Texas, 2B/SS) and he's gonna be a good one, IMO. Played the first couple weeks of the season and hit .481 and then got hurt. He just joined the Rangers back this week and has had a decent week for just returning. My pitching is the only thing keeping me alive (Sabathia, Kazmir, Schmidt, Mussina, Jenks, Street, Hudson, Livan Hernanadez, Rich Harden)I have D. LEE also and I don't think he is slated to return ANY time soon.... I really need him to get healthy so I have a prayer at making our playoffs. I'd pick up Bobby Crosby if nobody has him, he's a pretty solid middle infielder who spent some time on the bench this year with a bad thumb, and he's gotten off to a slow start... but he'll have a solid year for the A's (if the A's have any hopes in post-season, he needs to start hitting). He was something like 4-5 last night with a HR and 2 doubles.Dave Roberts might be a solid pick... gets on base and steals some. Doubt anyone in your league has him. Nobody in our's does and I think of picking him up, just don't know who I'd play him over (Trot, Griffey, Vlad, Craig Monroe, Xavier Nady, and Brad Wilkerson are my OF's).

Post your roster and scoring system. I have played FBB for about 20 years.
5/31/2006 2:37:26 PM
You need a spreadsheet with your scoring system... scoring system determines EVERYTHING in fantasy baseball. Some leagues you want closers, some you want K's, some you want power, some you want average, etc.
5/31/2006 2:42:01 PM
with an 8 team league you should be able to pick up some decent players off of the waivers/free agency (unless your teams are huge)if its a yahoo league then check players stats over the past month and the past week, compare them to players on your team and drop some of your players that arent producing (unless they are BIG name players who are just slumping at the beginning of the season i.e. Randy Johnson, Jimmy Rollins...) and pick up some of the guys having good seasons so far. Some other players that are having good seasons besides the ones stated above are: Prince Fielder, Nick Swisher, Casey Blake, Orlando Cabrera, to name a few. I have Derek Lee in one of my leagues also, and I think he might be coming back sooner than later, so definetly DO NOT drop him
5/31/2006 2:43:16 PM
Try to pick up/trade for some slow starters such as Barry Zito or Richie Sexson (although those guys are probably taken)
5/31/2006 2:51:48 PM
As stated above, the scoring system really is a huge determinant in how to go about things & you should set your rosters by performance over the last month. My leagues are head to head, so that is what I know the most about. They are my favorite & I"m in 2nd in one & 3rd in my other league. The key to these are matchups though. In head vs. head leagues, I've had lots of success focusing on securing certain categories. Take a good closer in say the 4th round & you've won the saves category most of the time. Pick up a base stealer or two in the mid-late rounds to take care of steals (you do NOT use waste a high pick on a basestealer, like Pierre though). Wait & get a Dave Roberts type late instead. Right there that's 2 of 10 categories taken care of with a 4th & say 10th pick. And the other 8 categories are so volatile, I like to secure what I can.Versatile positional players are very valuable for adjusting to injuries. A deep rotation is HUGE. Give me 4 good SP's & I"ll win about every week. Ace's are nice, but you don't want two shitty SP's to destroy you. To me, it's not so much about superstars as it is about depth in your starting lineup. In the league I'm in 2nd in, I've lost D. Lee as well, but I'm doing okay because I have a deep lineup.[Edited on May 31, 2006 at 4:23 PM. Reason : ]

Wanted to say thanks real quick. Just got in and need to get to bed, but will post my roster and as much about scoring stuff as possible soon. Its a yahoo league that is head-to-head every week with several categories. I'm pretty sure we just left the default stuff on there. More to come, but got to get to bed now. Thanks again....

ONE guy gets all your saves andONE guy gets all your stolen bases? yeah rightworst advice ever or worst league configuration ever^^
6/1/2006 9:35:47 AM
Well I don't see you spouting out advice.. If you get a top closer, you can do fine with just one... Depending on who I have, I may get another... Someone like Wags or Rivera though can normally carry the category by themselves. As for SB's, it's not like there aren't players who get SB's that you have for other reasons. Take DLee for instance, sure he'll get a few SB's, but I don't count on him for those. What I was saying is get a guy who is going to consistently get you alot of SB's. Unless all you're other hitters are sloths, you do just fine with one stealer.I think I do just fine in Fantasy Baseball (football also). Last year finished 2nd & 8th in my 12 team AL & NL leagues, 1st in my 12 team football league, & this year I'm in 2nd & 3rd in the AL & NL leagues. Note those are all my leagues & I don't just say how I'm doing in my best league. These leagues are with the same guys who have been in leagues with me for several years too. So, I guess I do know something... [Edited on June 1, 2006 at 9:56 AM. Reason : ]

not very good at the whole fantasy baseball deal.. but I was just offered Jason Bay, Austin Kearns, and Smoltz for Coco Crisp, Joe Mauer, and Vernon WellsI am hesitant becuase Mauer has been crazy lately and I dont have a decent backup for him. I have McCann but he's been hurt and I would probably pick up Toby Hall in FA. And Vernon has been on a bit of a tear lately too. Advice?
6/1/2006 10:21:08 AM
would yall drop xavier nady (just went on the DL) and pick up dave roberts? i need SB's
6/1/2006 10:36:04 AM
if Corey Patterson is still available which he probably is, I would consider picking him up.. a few more stolen bases and a better batting average. Really been picking it up lately. I also read that Milledge(Nady's replacement) could be a good pickup for the time being for SB's and average but more of a risk.
6/1/2006 10:38:45 AM
btw - did anyone see Milledge's cannon last night in RF?

I play fantasy baseball every year in multiple leagues with various scoring systems. I typically do well because I basically focus on certain stats for hitters and pitchers. For hitters, I look for high OPS guys first. I never worry about SBs because most of the guys who get SBs (give or take an Abreu or Bay), will not get much else other than runs scored and BA. SBs is just one category anyway and high OPS guys will normally help you in HRs, Runs, BA, RBIs, etc.For pitchers, I focus on WHIP and K/BB ratio. If a guy has a solid WHIP, then the ERA should be solid too and he should win some games and rack up the innings pitched. A good K/BB ratio (5-6+) also indicates that he getting atleast 5 Ks each time out and not walking people (which reflects in his WHIP too obviously). All of your top fantasy guys are going to have solid WHIP and K/BB, but it is some of the lesser known guys like a John Lackey or Danny Haren that help me do well.Probably the most important thing though is to stay on top of your team daily and, assuming that the league doesn't have restrictions on the number of moves you can make, going after the hot hitters and pitchers. For instance this year, I've been able to use Cuddyer and Youkilis to my advantage becuase both got off to hot starts and were not drafted. Also I picked up Liriano and he's a stud.

Sorry for graphics....did cut and paste to save a lot of time...I haven't made many moves. I let computer draft for me. Then a few weeks ago, I went through and looked at guy's stats by position and try to upgrade my team. Been hurt by a couple injuries, but overall I just don't keep up with baseball like I do f'ball and basketball.

Another copy and paste....sorry for any confusion. I'm actually winning so far this week, but I was killing the guy last week until the last 2 days. And, yes, my name is "The Count". Long story, but basically after several name changes just trying to be funny, the guy locked my team right after I made my name "The Count". Referring to the dracula guy from Sesame Street. Yeah. Like I say, long story.

Put maroth on the DL or dump him. He is gonna be out for 2-3 months
6/1/2006 3:34:33 PM
Ok. Thx. Off to finish building a deck in Apex. Been loads of fun.
6/1/2006 4:55:27 PM
Haven't had much time at all here last few days. I just dropped Maroth. Going to try to try to look at free agents tonight or at least sometime this weekend.
6/2/2006 2:50:56 PM
^^^what he saidget rid of doug davis immediately, been horrible and walks everybody (kills you in walk catagory)your lineup is solid, i would get a couple more speed guys and maybe upgrade at 1sti wish i could see some available free agents for your pitchingif you are doing a rotisserie, what scoring catagories do you need to improve in most?i'm assuming steals, walks, maybe wins, HRs, more....
6/2/2006 3:14:47 PM
dont know if kazmir is avaliable, but he is a strong young pitcher even though he got rocked last night, gets a lot of K's.some others:Brad Wilkerson - after his horrible start, really comin along, hitting a lot of HR's like i thought he would when i drafted him.Josh Willingham - not as hot now, but has been solid if you need catcher help (usually eligible at C/OF)all i can think of right now

I picked up Feliz and Wilkerson for 1st basemen. I passed on Youkilis. Of those 3, any suggestions on who to start...as I could easily go and get Youkilis if needed.I dropped soulpatch...Doug Davis. I'm pretty sure that guy has cost me money, b/c when I looked at him I remember keeping up with a game and seeing his pic on the mound. Brewers have lost a lot lately.
6/2/2006 7:18:54 PM
Right now, put Feliz in for tomorrow, b/c he's scheduled to play a double header...
6/2/2006 7:20:21 PM
Just so you know the chances of that doubleheader being played are slim -- over an inch of rain is expected in Flushing..I picked up Feliz for awhile but frankly I'd be more inclined to go with Youk. His OBP is good, draws a ton of walks, and will score a lot of runs in that lineup.
6/2/2006 8:09:48 PM
Yeah, seems to be raining in a lot of places right now. I was thinking Youkilis, but then went to "last month" and the 2 I picked up were slightly higher. I may get Youkilis though. Thanks.
6/2/2006 8:15:14 PM
I won last week 8-6. Hoping to gradually get better. Got some pitchers going tonight. Garcia, Wang, Hamels, Peavy.
