What were your experiences during the initial adjustment period when you first started wearing contacts? How long does it take to get to the point of not feeling them on your eyes anymore? Did the doctor tell you to ease into it by wearing them a little longer each day or did they say to tough it out and wear them all day from the beginning?

It's been 5 days and they aren't comfortable yet. I'm not sure if it's the way they fit, that I haven't completely adjusted to them, or that my eyes aren't cut out for contact lenses.

my extended wear contacts fit really well

but i tried a trial of the kind that you wear for a day and throw away.........the curvature was different and they never settled on my eyes -- always felt like they would pop out


go back and maybe he give you a pair with a different curve.

also, you never get to a point where you don't ever feel them in your eye. more feel it there, and it doesn't bother you

I would say about 2 to 3 weeks before I forgot completely I was wearing them. The first week or so was somewhat uncomfortable, but it was completely tolerable for me due to the awesomeness of perfect peripheral vision.

Oh and I "toughed" it out. From the day I got contacts I've worn them all day every day for the last 5 years or so. Never even put my glasses back on.

Id like to know what everyones expierence has been as well. I just got fitted for some last week, I'm going back in for a check up today. I can't really feel mine, but I have noticed my eyes seem really dry after a few hours. I've gotten eye drops and that will help for a while but not long. Maybe its just the kind of contacts im wearing. Do those of you who have worn contacts for a long time have this problem?

If you have toric lenses, you are always going to feel them, as they are much thicker than a standard lens.

But if they're not comfortable, go back to your doctor. You probably paid $90 or so for a fitting, and it's the optometrist's responsibility to get it right. There are multitudes of different lenses, and each are slightly different. Something out there should be comfortable.

I started wearing acuvues when I was 15, and didn't notice them after a day. I wear baush and lomb extended wears now (can wear them for a month without taking them out), and i only start noticing them after about 4 weeks, when it's getting time to swap 'em.

I did get fitted for toric lenses which sucks because they're going to be way more expenisve the standard lenses.

If your contact lenses aren't comfortable yet, switch to a different brand. For instance, I can't ware the Acuview2 brand. My eyes just don't like the material. My optomologist switched me to a different brand and it was like night and day. I didn't notice them in my eyes from the moment I got them in.

^^^^^I wore contacts for a year with no problem, but then apparently my tear production went down, which might be what's wrong with yours, you just aren't producing enough tears. I switched to Extreme H2O 59% and they are freakin awesome. They are so thin and let in so much air, they feel great.

Yea, you should try diff types until you find ones you like. I've worn various types of acuview for about 8 years now, and my eyes feel more awkward when i don't have them in, but at first, i had to try several brands before i found the ones that felt best.

My lenses are torics. I'm not sure what brand though. My right eye is much less comfortable than my left eye, so I think there is improvement to be made. I had a problem with dry eyes the first day I wore them, but after that it was just that I can always feel something on my eye more than I imagine I should be able to.

is your right eye also blurry? you may not have it oriented in your eye correctly, or the prescription is off

i don't remember having to adjust.. but then again i've had contacts since 6th grade.

mine was more getting adjusted to touching my eye than feeling the contacts in them

i never feel my contacts now, how does it feel uncomfortable? do your eyes feel dry, or does the contact feel scratchy, or do you just constantly feel like there is something in your eye? i would discuss the discomfort with your doctor and maybe the particular brand or type of contacts is what is bothering you. i recently switched to a brand of contacts that allows my eyes to breath better so my eyes don't get dry as easily and i LOVE them.

^^^My right eye isn't blurry.

^^It isn't itchy or scratchy or dry. It just always feels like there is a foreign object in my eye. And the sensation varies depending on where my eye is pointed. It's the most noticable when I look straight ahead, but I barely feel it when I look in a downward direction.

didn't read anyone else's posts, but...

I got used to wearing contacts in a weeks... great, aren't they? (much better than glasses at least)

I did try some eye color changing contacts and they covered a much larger portion of the eye which felt a little weird, took about 2 weeks to get used to. I just kept them in up until when the doctor initially told me to take them out everyday.
