anyone wanna discuss fantasy baseball?i got a trade offer of sheffield and beltran for ortiz (i have ortiz)i'm strong at OF but this is a tempting offer
5/29/2006 6:54:32 PM
isnt sheffield like a walking injury waiting to happen?
5/29/2006 6:56:27 PM
tough decision.. Beltran has been crazy lately but not sure if Sheff can stay healthy.. if you have a pretty strong outfield im not sure i would do this.. who would you play instead of Ortiz?
5/29/2006 6:57:04 PM
i didn't think it was possible to have pujols and still suck, but thats exactly what my team is doing. now that carp is probably DL bound, i should sink even farther[Edited on May 29, 2006 at 6:58 PM. Reason : .]
5/29/2006 6:58:26 PM
i could move chad tracy to 1st base
5/29/2006 7:13:31 PM
I need a quality starter and I am willing to move beltran. who are some quality guys I should aim for
5/29/2006 7:17:54 PM
santana and pedro are the top of the linei'd try and get kazmir cuz of his K totals and he would probably be a little less of a hassle to get
5/29/2006 7:21:29 PM
^^^I would probably stick with Ortiz.. never know when Sheff is gonna be playing or on the DL[Edited on May 29, 2006 at 7:22 PM. Reason : a]
5/29/2006 7:21:58 PM
i really wasn't considering this trade that muchjust wanted to get this thread started off righti'm in desparate need of pitching though
5/29/2006 7:24:01 PM
here's a monster deal i offered my friend who's thinking about acceptingmy players to give away:vladbret myerslackeybrad pennyfor:carlos leecarlos zambranochris capuanoand whoever he's gonna dropK totals are a big deal in my league so giving up penny means nothing[Edited on May 29, 2006 at 7:27 PM. Ok. I need starting pitchers. I worked at a deal to get Dontrelle, Julio, and Ensberg for Glaus and Lidge (personalyl I think I jobbed the guy but that's besides the point).I have a deal on the table for Tim Hudson and Francisco Cordero for Huston Street. Is that a good deal in a vacuum, first?Second. Do you think it's wise to go to war with a subpar group of closers (Julio, Fuentes, and a fill in that happens to be closing at the time -- maybe Walker/Meadows from TB who are both available). Also, do you feel Cordero will eventually reassume the closer job for TEX?My new starting staff (top 5) will be Peavy, Dontrelle, Hudson, Cliff Lee, and Blanton/Radke/anyone else), which is a serious upgrade. Keep in mind that I win ALL the offensive categories nearly every week..[Edited on June 23, 2006 at 2:32 PM. Reason : x]
6/23/2006 2:32:09 PM
i'd keep Hudson and Cordero (but this trade could go either way cuz the A's are a 2nd half team and i would guarantee more save opps for street)although, your starting staff would be real weak if you get rid of Hudsonalso, i would probably upgrade on francisco cordero because he will definitely not get the closer role this year...Otsuka is doing to good to lose the jobif you can, i'd try to upgrade the relief staff especially if your offense is strong
6/23/2006 3:52:22 PM
Hudson is ALWAYS a 2nd half pitcher & is money come Fantasy playoff time. You'd be crazy to deal him, if your league has a playoff system.
6/23/2006 3:56:23 PM
Oh, my fault. I'm acquiring Hudson/Cordero for Street..I'm easily going to make the playoff in the league as I'm 3rd out of 12 and not going anywhere with my offense.. I desperately needed starting pitching though..
6/23/2006 4:11:18 PM
^thats a good deal thencordero sucks so its basically street for hudsonif you in a league like mine, then a SP is more valuable the a RPalso look for some rookie SP that noone has picked up such as: Jered Weaver (angels)Anthony Reyes (cards)maybe Cole Hamels (phillies, he's got good stuff but was roughed up last start)also look if J.J. Putz (RP for the mariners) is still availblehe's got great K totals and just became the closerthe mariners have also been hot so he's been getting his fair share of opportunities[Edited on June 23, 2006 at 4:33 PM. Reason : asdf]
6/23/2006 4:29:51 PM
^actually Cole Hamels dominated the yankees his last start.
6/23/2006 4:30:36 PM
^oops, i meant the start against tampa where he went 3.2 innings
6/23/2006 4:34:18 PM
^^^If anyone is in a league where Jered Weaver or Putz are still available, then they are in a shitty ass league. Weaver has been money so far this year and closers get picked up fast. Hammels will be a stud, but is inconsistent so far, Reyes should atleast get some wins because the Cards offense is solid and Mulder is on the DL so he'll get an opportunity to start.[Edited on June 23, 2006 at 4:59 PM. Reason : s]
6/23/2006 4:58:22 PM
Ha, yeah they are all taken. It's a pretty competitive league w/ guys who know their baseball really well..I picked up Lester a few days ago and Papelbon was the best free agent pickup ever (I got him in TWW league too)... after only 1 save..Jerod Weaver is back @ AAA though...[Edited on June 23, 2006 at 5:05 PM. Reason : x]
6/23/2006 5:04:52 PM
^ Oh yeah I forgot they sent him back when Fatass Colon came back off the DL. The Angels are fucking dumb for not letting Weaver keep pitching in the bigs. They should have traded Jeff Weaver's ass and let his brother keep dominating.
6/23/2006 5:23:19 PM
i typically don't like to trade laterally (position for the same position), but there's a guy in our league who has slowly been accumulating the entire red sox lineup... he's just a tremendous sox fan is all...I like my outfield (magglio, manny ramirez, corey patterson..dont ask..., and matt holliday)Is it there anything that will be gained in giving up manny for vladimir guerrero, straight up? vlad's been slumping lately and manny has finally got his BA near .300...and I really would like following vlad more than manny, given that our league isn't super-serious... go for it?
6/24/2006 7:47:05 PM
^the problem with that trade is that its so hard to tell who will be better when the season endsi'd probably keep manny simply because ortiz hits in front of him and he'll see a lot of good pitcheshe'll probably have more HR and RBIs at the end of the year (even though vladdy has slightly more now)Vladdy won't have as many RBI chances as Manny because the Angel's offense is terrible right nowif the kid likes the red sox so much then you could probably get him to throw in another playerthen i'd go through with the trade
6/25/2006 10:59:28 AM
anyone starting D. Lee today?
6/25/2006 11:00:55 AM
i'd give him a week before starting himi just made this trade this week: I gave up Scott Rolen and Tad Iguchi for Chase Utley and Adrian Beltre. I figured I got the best player in the deal (Utley) and getting Beltre right when he's starting to hit and hitting in the 2-hole now in the Mariner's lineup. I am in need of HRs and SBs so they can both help me out a little in both those categories. What do you guys think? (Oh, i did get those 2hr,7rbis that Iguchi just hit, it's a weekly league haha)[Edited on June 25, 2006 at 11:25 PM. Reason : .]

would yall accept this trade?guy wants to give me Figgins and Gomes for Vlad and Mussina.I need triples, runs scored and stolen bases pretty bad. My pitching is straight w/o Moose (Livan Hernandez, Sabathia, Kazmir, Harden, Hudson, Jenks and Street).... but I just don't know if I want to let Vlad go.
6/27/2006 12:48:16 PM
don't do itthat's a horrible tradeboth figgins and gomes are htting around .250figgins would help you in runs, triples, and stolen bases but could hurt you in other catagoriesif you could get figgins and someone alot better than gomes then the trade would be alright
6/27/2006 6:17:04 PM
probably a dumb move but i traded Miguel Cabrera and Mussina for Figgins and Gomes. the league was getting mighty boring, maybe this trade will spice it up a little.Hopefully Chavez will get his shit together and make up for the loss of Cabrera. I'm really countin on it since the A's are normally a 2nd half team and Chavez is their horse.[Edited on June 27, 2006 at 8:24 PM. Reason : d]

i aquired carlos beltran and ryan freel for carpenter and rolen. I already have johan and halladay, needed another bat
6/27/2006 8:46:44 PM
went through a facelift the last couple days, when you're sittin about middle of the road all year maybe a facelift will work out for the best lost:m. cabrera (fla)m. mussina (nyy)b. wilkerson (tex)i. kinsler (tex)j. castillo (tex)c. biggio (hou)added:g. mathews jr (tex)f. sanchez (pit)j. willingham (fla)c. figgins (laa)j. gomes (tb)d. lee (chc) from DLi feel good about the guys I added, but gettin rid of miguel cabrera will probably kick my ass
6/27/2006 9:01:33 PM
derek lee is back, expect him to go off. if no one has burnett, hurry and get him... someone in our league had dropped him when he got hurt and everyone forgot to get him. I picked him up sunday and he threw a complete game shutout last night. thats one of the reasons i was able to pull off the beltran/carpenter trade.

rank these outfielders in a 5x5 mixed leagueJim EdmondsRocco BaldelliCliff FloydJose Guillen
6/29/2006 9:43:41 PM
^all of the outfielders are not having that great of a year except baldelli so far1. Baldelli (he's been on fire since his return)2. edmonds (i'll rank him higher when his bat starts getting hot)3. floyd (he's just coming off the DL and he's in a potent lineup)4. guillen

analyze these two trades I made:soriano, garciaparra for thome, crawfordortiz, podsednik for reyes, abreuafter the first trade I had one too many 1Bs (Helton, Ortiz, Thome). Helton is pretty worthless as tradebait but I didn't want to drop him, so I made that second trade. Abreu isn't lighting things up but he's no better or worse than helton and this way I can play them both instead of a scrub pickup. It breaks down like this:BEFORE:24 HR 51 RBI 56 RUN 18 SB .27110 HR 47 RBI 46 RUN 3 SB .3622 HR 31 RBI 56 RUN 24 SB .26423 HR 70 RBI 54 RUN 0 SB .27159 HR 199 RBI 212 RUN 45 SB .292AFTER:8 HR 36 RBI 67 RUN 34 SB .2938 HR 53 RBI 52 RUN 15 SB .28610 HR 37 RBI 49 RUN 26 SB .30425 HR 65 RBI 61 RUN 0 SB .28651 HR 191 RBI 229 RUN 75 SB .292A few too many SB acquired, but I lost marginally (-8 HR, -8 RBI) and gained pretty decently (17 R, 30 SB).

anybody got Joe Mauer on their team?
6/30/2006 12:43:49 PM
id pick up freddy sanchez if nobody in your league has him

dude, thanks for the responsecurrently I have d. uggla at 2nd but I won't lie, it's a void that needs to be filled. the thing with my league is that it's me and 7 relatives and we trimmed roster size at the beginning (a mistake) to account for the shallow depth of our league. this has led to one of my uncle-in-law's swapping SPs in and out in order to accumulate W and K automatically and ERA/WHIP if he's halfway competitive. Regardless, the offense isn't so much of a joke, but I'm glad I got rid of soriano. Filling the infield positions truely is difficult in fantasy baseball, though.to be honest, I'm rather pleased with the competition of my league. we did put ten whole dollars of ours on the line, so...[Edited on June 30, 2006 at 9:22 PM. PRONKED
7/2/2006 8:42:09 AM
so, I play in a head-to-head league, and these are the really close categories going into the last day of the week (all other stat categories probably won't change today based on my decisions... i'm winning stolen bases by like 5, pitcher wins by 3, etc):I'm winning Hits (59-58), Runs (34-38), Home Runs (9-8), and AVG (.330 - .328)I'm losing batter K's (32-28), and RBI (31-36).so the question is...OUTFIELD - 3 spots (corey patterson, magglio ordonez, vlad guerrero, matt holliday)THIRD BASE (scott rolen or troy glaus)SHORTSTOP (troy glaus, edgar renteria, or tejada)
7/2/2006 12:27:31 PM
Why doesn't Marcus Thames play more? .310 w/ 16 HRs in only 180 ABs? Those are some GREAT numbers...[Edited on July 2, 2006 at 6:48 PM. Reason : and he is available in EVERY league.]
7/2/2006 6:48:26 PM
not our tww one he is a defensive liability
7/2/2006 6:52:29 PM
If you have E. Chavez, is it time to get rid of him? Oakland's a 2nd Half team and Chavez is their man, but he's been absolutely awful the last couple of months. Will Griff start today in MIL?Would you start Kazmir vs. Boston? I'm not sure, but it seems like Kaz has had pretty good luck against the Red Sox in the past?
7/3/2006 11:51:56 AM
i'd keep chavez cuz he's a 2nd half player i was thinking about picking him up to have on the benchand i'd start kazmir vs. anyone
7/3/2006 12:15:02 PM
^I was thinking that same thing (Kazmir and Chavez).I have a roster jam right now. I need another infielder because I have just enough now to start everyday (Broussard, Figgins, D. Lee, E. Chavez, F. Sanchez, Nomar and J. Rollins), but I'm not sure which outfielder I want to drop (Griffey, Gomes, Vlad, Corey Patterson, Matt Kemp, Trot Nixon, or Matthews Jr.). My OF's are OF's only and can't move to the INF. Figgins could move to the OF if needed, but I need him in the infield.I have J. Willingham (C, LF) but he doesn't qualify for a IF position. I'd be alright if they'd allow Pudge to serve as a 1B in my league, but they don't. Willingham's my backup catcher since Pudge doesn't necessarily play everyday, but I guess I could drop him and pick up a versatile infielder.BTW, my pitching is pretty straight so I don't really want to drop one of them (SP's - Harden, Sabathia, Kazmir, Hudson(drop?), Liv. Hernandez, J. Schmidt.. RP's - Jenks and Street).Any thoughts? Drop Willingham and grab an INF? Thanks[Edited on July 3, 2006 at 12:30 PM. Reason : 2]

pretty sure this is a no-brainer, butat 1B, sit ryan howard today vs. jake peavy and play justin morneau (against some jobber for the royals, cant remember who), right? sometimes when i bench guys against really good picthers they end up being the only guy with a homerun and 2-3 or something in a 4-2 loss.[Edited on July 5, 2006 at 1:27 PM. Reason : typos]
7/5/2006 1:27:00 PM
isnt there a way for you to play both????but yea, if it came down to it, i'd play morneau but I would trade one if you couldn't play both
7/5/2006 5:53:00 PM
i'm going to trade one, but i have hafner, who can only play utility, so it goes
7/5/2006 6:02:11 PM
pick 2 of 3 for the coming week:Buerhle @NYYRogers vs KCE Santana vs TBDo I sit Buerhle and play the other two against weaker competition and at home?
