I have a car that I need to put into storage starting in august. I know that charlotte has some storage places that "specialize" in car storage and was wondering 1. what is the difference between one of those type places and a normal storage place 2. where one might be near NCSU. I don't have a garage and the car has leaking weather stripping and anyways, I am not paying for the storage so would like to keep it indoors somewhere if I can.

prolly climate controlled is what those "specialized" car storage places have. I would imagine them have low humidity and tempurature to stay very consistant in the 60-70's range.

probably more like 70s to 80s

you'll probably have to drain the fuel tank to keep it in a regular storage space.

so is it worth looking into one specifically designed for car storage or is there really that big of a difference. I wouldn't think that a normal storage place would get too hot even in the middle of the day in august. Cinder block walls and no windows, wouldn't think that to allow to much heat. I could be wrong though. I am making that assumption off my basement being of the same general construction and it is always cool in there. Where is there a place near NCSU. I will have to go start it up and run it every couple weeks also. I would prefer something that is like a 5 minute shot from campus.

your basement is probably also somewhat below ground, with a house on top keeping out direct heat.

If you dont pull the gas out put some of this in (seriously)

they can get kinda warm inside, but not unreasonably so. i keep my project in a storage space off of westgate... and they will make you take the fuel out, but may not check/enforce it

i wonder if the insurance is better at the places that specialize in automotive storage

^^ prices and distance from campus? or an address and I can mapquest. I also need a company or someone who will tow it from Manning, SC. It runs, but very rough and has a bad trany leak. if anyone knows of any companies or people who you would trust with your car, let me know.

i keep mine at shurgard next to angus barn.it's like $120 a month.. in that range... the prices vary a lot by location and whether you have 24 hour access. this one is not close to campus, but right across from where i work.. makes it convenient for me. thats a bit of a haul, i think i would just rent a trailer or a tow dolly and pull it up here yourself

this is what I am towing back (though not this exact one). http://portland.craigslist.org/car/165409814.htmlMine is a different color and already own it. It was my mom's car when she turned 16 and stayed in the family. My grandfather has it now but needs the garage space to "tinker" around in his garage so wants it out. My mom lives in the north and doesn't want to haul it all the way there so I get it and get to mess around with it some. I think I am just going to call around to storage places near campus and get a temperature controlled storage unit. I will play the fuel draining by ear and if they give me a lot of crap about it, but if I can get the thing running semi-decent and the tranny leak fixed, I want to be able to drive it around every now and then to keep the thing in running condition. Any suggestions are welcome, but I will most likely just use the trusty yellow pages and the cell to find something. Thanks for everything though

when i put my car in storage, i just pulled the fuel sender out of hte tank and used a pump to get most of the liquid out of the tank...for them, its an insurance thing... i actually stored it for a few weeks with fuel, but took it out just in case...
