i think my parents picked up something online. most likely my dad who can't resist clicking on shit... but...whenever you use http://www.google.com to search for anything it redirects you to a different off the wall search engine or something else random... any ideas? (done the usual sweeps but i can't exactly 'google' and answer to this one as it will just give me the wrong site and not the google search results)additionally NAV will appear to update but the actual 'date' on the update part does not change...[Edited on May 27, 2006 at 1:19 PM. sounds like normal spyware crap to me. get a few good ones and keep trying.

it sounds like somethings put an entry in their HOSTS files to redirect google to pron-r-us or whereever it's sending them

http://www.jayloden.com/hostfix.htmDownload Hostfix from Jay Loden (same guy that makes aimfix). Like ^ said, it seems like you have multiple entries in your host file.Download that file and see if it works. Then update your anti-virus and spyware programs, turn off System Restore (right-click my computer -> properties -> system restore -> turn off), reboot into safe mode (F8 as soon as computer starts to boot back up) and then run all your scans again.

still messed up actually, it's some coolWWWsearch horseshit that I can't seemingly get rid of
6/16/2006 11:25:22 PM
there is a program online that fixes that exact thinga few google searches should find SOMETHING that gets rid of it
6/16/2006 11:26:53 PM
get cwshredder.....
6/16/2006 11:32:45 PM
OH GOD NOT COOLWEBSEARCHYou need a freaking chainsaw to get rid of that shit...unless you use CWShredder. There isn't much in common with all the variants except that they all use the ByteCodeVerifier exploit in the MS Java Virtual Machine. The best way to make sure you don't get it again is to get rid of the MS Java Virtual Machine and use Sun's.To read about it--http://www.merijn.org/cwschronicles.htmlAnyway, Merijn was the original coder for CWShredder. Go get it from Trendmicro http://www.housecall.trendmicro.com and while you're at it, run Housecall as well. Free online virus/spyware scanner, works great.
