Let me just start by saying i dont know the first thing about cars, so try not to be too harsh on me here. My 2001 Mustang GT is a stick shift and as of a few days ago, ive noticed the clutch making a squeaking noise as i push it towards the floorboard. The clutch seems to be functioning fine, other than this noise. Is this noise the first sign of my clutch going bad? or is there something i can do about it? any advice would be great.

time to trade it in for a civic(automatic at that)you wouldnt understand wehat the problem is so just take it to a shop and have them check it out. good luck

clutch cable is freying on the inside... clutch cables are typically cheap

i would think the 01s would have a hydraulic clutch.. not certain, tho.

why would they. cable is better any way. you can adjust it yourself. im selling my 89 hatch if anybody wants it

Here's my verdict. Nobody has said squat about where specifically the noise is coming from. Is it from the pedal linkage under the dash? Or is it a high-pitched squeal coming from the transmission/engine?

Throwout bearings usually make a "RRRR" noise as you push in the clutch. As a matter of fact, they almost sound like them bullfrogs at a pond when dusk approaches.

The pilot bearing or bushing can squeal when the clutch is pressed in...

I'd have to be there in person to give my official verdict.

Just why is it that I have to be a mechanic and know all about cars in order to drive a GT? Please do tell.

If these are my only two options, then Id have to go with the linkage under the dash. There is no unusual noise coming from the engine at all. And thanks for a serious response.

Also, the noise doesnt really start until ive started driving for a little while (say 15 minutes or so....using the clutch regularly). After this time, the noise picks up and continues until the car rests for some time.

well if it aint coming from the engine, then stick your head under there and press the clutch down with your hand and solve the problem. you really dont need to be a master mechanic to find a squeak
