so I am at a new place and out of school for a while. What is the best way to develop a good social circle?

I am not talking about getting laid or going to bars. Just a fun group with likeminded people that you can plan activities with.

I have tried meetup before, but the kind of people that generally use these avenues are more or less pretty much the same kind of people you see in computer science classes.

Can anyone understand what I am saying?

Go to church. I don't care if you don't care for it or are opposed to it. You can always find hot chicks in church. Just think of it as 'bringing the religion down from the inside and getting booty in the process'.

It's not about chicks.

Like I said, this is not about getting laid.

Woodfoot, how exactly does a dart league work out?

1. Get a dog (or borrow a friend's)
2. Walk it regularly where others walk dogs
3. Take notice of the people you see often
4. Speak to them... I can't help with the socializing with them part

Try social groups that deal with something you're interested in. Like reading? Try some random poetry or writing club.

Plus you'll still find the girls you're looking for.

You can say you're not in it to meet girls, and I'll just call you a liar.

Find your closest neighbor, your ex gf, and your best friend from high school… instant circle of friends for atleast 9 seasons.

Keep looking. Also if there are any large college campuses in the area, hang at social places close by.

I thought about that, but how do I just hang out?

Also, this area isn't as much culturally diverse like Raleigh...I dunno if people here are accepting of brown turrists.

it's actually kinda surprising that both these places are predominantly white even though both UWisc and UMN have good computer science grad programs.

bars set aside a night or two each week where people come in and play darts, like a rolling continuing tournament

i guess you can try and find a solo set, or if you can find someone who doesn't have a parter or needs an extra person you can be on a team

its basically hanging out and knowing you'll have someone to talk to - even if they are your opponent

you said you play raquet sports

the folks at my gym don't care who you are, how old you are, what you do - if you'll play raquetball with them, they'll let you
there is probably a gym up there that has a crew like that

also, isn't there a big design/arts school up there?

you'll prolly find your more liberal/open-minded/non-terrorist-hating people there

yeah there's a very big arts school in Minneapolis.

I am pretty outgoing...my problem is just finding where and how to start. I just can't stand at a street corner and make friends.

There's lots of groups around.. Milongas does Argentine Tango, NC State has a ballroom team and free social dance lessons if you have access to the gym, there's probably some Shag, Swing, etc. groups around as well, and I've found that dance groups are a great way to meet people.. you get together, learn/do something fun, and then have an excuse to meet up, go dancing, dinner, hang out, whatever.. I started ballroom dancing at NC State this year and spend loads of time hanging out with people on the team, a great way to network

gargs are u in minneapolis? if so the nightlife there is plentiful...best way to meet people is go to a bar talk to the bartender find out what is going on during the week and whatnot then go out and meet them... they have poker tournaments at bars as well as euchre tournaments most likely since that is a midwestern game. but on a more light note quit cooking shit with curry in it and people will be more likely to talk to you.
