It's a Netgear MA111 usb1.1 adapter.
I got it for free (now i know why)
Every time i plug it in , after i had to download the "correct" drivers for it (before i had those, it didn't even register as anything but an "unknown usb device") Nothing on the website says anything about any problems. But if i google it, it looks like it's just a big peice of crap.

ALMOST everything i read about this thing says the same thing. somehow a small percentage of people actually find a way to get it working.

Apparantly it's related to it's being designed as a usb 1.1 device for use on usb 2.0 connections.
I've tried hooking it up to a 1.1 hub, but it still bluescreens the instant it starts to install the drivers.

Like i said it was totally free, so I'm wondering since i have nothing to lose if you guys have any bright ideas about jerry-rigging something up.

I'm totally open to suggestions here. i'm willing to crack this thing open and hold it under a magnifying glass if it might help anything.

the more creative the better. i'm williing to bet some of you hardware freaks can come up with something

oh yeah. XP

and i understated it when i said "bluescreen". it TOTALLY crashes. straight to black and reboots. I have to take the adapter out to get the os up again or even get it past POST

i guess the offending file would be the driver? what would i look for in the pagedump exactly?

first thing to do is disable auto reboot...go to start, settings, control panel, "advanced" tab, last section should be "startup and recovery", click "settings" and the second to last checkbox is "automatically restart", uncheck it

after that, do what you usually do and when it crashes next time you'll get a blue screen of death that will list the offending file in the top right part of the screen (i think...it's been a while since i've dealt with it)...when that happens, post what you get
