screw that...best value laptop anywhere is a toshiba...i buy them for our company all the time and they hold up without any problems...best prices i can find for the machine (this obviously does not include insane slickdeals.net deals)...depends on your price range but i JUST bought, not two weeks ago, for $750 after rebates (add $50 for upgrade)14.1" widescreen1.83ghz with centrino100gb 5400rpm sata hd1gb ddr2 ram128mb shared videodl dvd burnerintegrated wirelessfingerprint reader (yes, pointless, but didn't have much choice)5-in-1 card reader$50 upgrade for 12-cell batterybeat that.
5/19/2006 12:37:22 PM
^What's the warranty on one of those?jm, how "cheap" are you looking for? And what are your "needs"?
5/19/2006 12:39:46 PM
acer is pretty good for the price as well.[Edited on May 19, 2006 at 12:40 PM. Reason : had a toshiba before it. both work well and were cheap]
5/19/2006 12:40:30 PM
all laptops are alike when it comes to components. Durability comes from material and workmanship, and that is the only place where manufacturers can create margins. That said, get a Dell. I have no experience using IBMs just because they tend to be sad looking and way overpriced. Dells, Toshibas, Acers, and Averatec are all good.
5/19/2006 12:48:18 PM

5/19/2006 1:29:33 PM
The RAM, HDD, USB ports, and screen suck on the laptop you just won.
5/19/2006 1:37:47 PM
ok... well i bidded on it but didn't meet the reserve so i have the opewrtion of buying it still... you think I should just go with a Dell?[Edited on May 19, 2006 at 1:41 PM. Reason : rf]
5/19/2006 1:41:22 PM
yes, I think you should.try slickdeals.net and xpbargains.com to find a decent dell for $700I bought mine for $1300 a year ago (17 inch, centrino, 100GB HDD) and haven't repented it at all. Don't get anything more than the standard warranty, IMO. I didn't pay for warranty and my laptop is still hale and hearty.
5/19/2006 1:45:59 PM
ok awesome thanx

i would stay away from ebay either way. if you want used make a thread in the classifieds looking for a used laptop and me or someone else will sell you one. if you want new, spend the $400-$500 and get something brand new with a warranty.
5/19/2006 2:22:17 PM

5/19/2006 2:34:39 PM
^^ yeah thats no good either
5/19/2006 2:36:08 PM
