Based on Antonia Fraser's book about the ill-fated Archduchess of Austria and later Queen of France, 'Marie Antoinette' tells the story of the most misunderstood and abused woman in history, from her birth in Imperial Austria to her later life in France.

God, I want to see this. And not just because Kirstin Dunst's ass is in the trailer. That only accounts for, at most, 35% of why I want to see this. Just reading about it, I was unsure, but the trailers are very sofiacoppolaey.

Strong points:
1. Sofia Coppola.
2. Jason Schwartzman.
3. Kirsten Dunst.
4. Possibly awesome soundtrack.
5. Badass teaser: http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/marieantoinette/
6. Badass trailer: http://quicktime.allocine.fr/nmedia/18/36/20/98/18603777_fa2_vost_hd.mov
7. Sofia fucking Coppola.

p.s. There's an older thread, but it's dead.

That Chemical Brothers gymnastics video she's in freaks me out.

I am torn about this, btw. It could be fantastic or a train wreck. The trailer is fucking great, though (New Order, get it?).

I am reading the book its based on right now. Very thorough, one of the better biographies I have read on my favorite historical figure.

But Kirsten Drunkst?

Why couldn't they pick an actress with class, or at least one who could pull off on Austrian or French accent? From what I have seen in the trailer, she speaks with an American accent, which is thoroughly disappointing.

And how will Schwartzman match up to Louis XVI in terms of size? That must be one hell of a body suit. Perhaps they borrowed the fat bastard one from Austin Powers?

I am sure it will be great and win tons of awards, but what a horrible miscasting. Dunst couldnt act her way out of a paper bag, in my opinion. Let's not forget her great films such as Lifetime's "Fifteen and Pregnant" or "Bring It On". I really hope she amazes me, because the one Spiderman movie I did see that was recent still was disappointing.

looks like coppola is trying to present this film like an 80s teen-comedy (these people were young when they got married)

you do realize most actors and actresses are just trained fucking monkeys and can only deliver what is coaxed out of them

are you really basing your opinions of this girl off of performances in films directed by Peyton Reed and whoever Lifetime digs up?

I know they did, but they didn't have kids until 7 years after being married. Judging by the birth control of the time, I wouldn't imagine that means there was a lot of shacking up going on. They didn't even have sex on their wedding night because nobody had told them what to do on it. I just think portraying her as some kind of sexy vixen is not applicable at all.

Seven years of that, though? Like, why not have kids? Didn't they need an heir?

You all just want Kirsten naked.

Who doesn't wanna see Kirsten naked?

This Natalie person seems to think this is supposed to be a period piece. Seems to me that it's more of an atmosphere piece that happens to be about people who wear funny clothes.

I will swallow my hatred of Kirsten Dunst and see this, probably. Only because I like Marie Antoinette and I want to see if they're fairly accurate with the depiction of the period.

All the online research I've seen notes that they didn't have sex for those seven years due to his inability to get an erection. And that had to suck.

are you seriously saying that this would be more realistic if she spoke ENGLISH with a different accent?

i mean, correct me if i am wrong, but isnt speaking ENGLISH different from speaking FRENCH no matter what accent is used?

if you are in paris and you say "how much is that eiffel tower replica?" and they dont understand you, you cant just repeat it in a french accent.

FRENCH GUARD: Allo! Who is eet?
ARTHUR: It is King Arthur, and these are my Knights of the Round Table. Who's castle is this?
FRENCH GUARD: This is the castle of my master, Guy de Loimbard.
ARTHUR: Go and tell your master that we have been charged by God with a sacred quest. If he will give us food and shelter for the night, he can join us
in our quest for the Holy Grail.
FRENCH GUARD: Well, I'll ask him, but I don't think he'll be very keen. Uh, he's already got one, you see.
ARTHUR: What?
GALAHAD: He says they've already got one!
ARTHUR: Are you sure he's got one?
FRENCH GUARD: Oh, yes. It's very nice-a. (I told him we already got one.)
FRENCH GUARDS: [chuckling]
ARTHUR: Well, u-- um, can we come up and have a look?
FRENCH GUARD: Of course not! You are English types-a!
ARTHUR: Well, what are you, then?
FRENCH GUARD: I'm French! Why do think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king-a?!
GALAHAD: What are you doing in England?
FRENCH GUARD: Mind your own business!
ARTHUR: If you will not show us the Grail, we shall take your castle by force!
FRENCH GUARD: You don't frighten us, English pig-dogs! Go and boil your bottom, sons of a silly person. I blow my nose at you, so-called Arthur
King, you and all your silly English k-nnnnniggets. Thpppppt! Thppt! Thppt!
GALAHAD: What a strange person.
ARTHUR: Now look here, my good man--
FRENCH GUARD: I don't wanna talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper! I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a
hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!
GALAHAD: Is there someone else up there we could talk to?
FRENCH GUARD: No. Now, go away, or I shall taunt you a second time-a!
[sniff]
ARTHUR: Now, this is your last chance. I've been more than reasonable.
FRENCH GUARD: (Fetchez la vache.)
OTHER FRENCH GUARD: Quoi?
FRENCH GUARD: (Fetchez la vache!)

Quote :
"'Marie Antoinette', which had been expected to be a strong contender for the Palme d'Or (best picture) at the Cannes Film Festival, was booed yesterday by audiences after its premiere. The movie, starring Kirsten Dunst and directed by Sofia Coppola, chronicles the life of the 14-year-old princess from her arrival in the French court to her impending downfall during the initial days of the French Revolution. The few very early reviews are not kind. Breitbart says:

"...despite sumptuous sets and costumes and a rollicking rock'n'roll soundtrack, the film is a disappointing and unconvincing story that prompted sniggers at points, and boos which drowned out the scattered applause at the end."

Time Out London says:

"Coppola's film may give fashion fans and music video heads cause to celebrate, but it will leave anyone looking for a strong perspective on the life of Marie Antoinette severely disappointed."

Thanks to a weak gag-reflex, it took me 4 hours to read 3 articles about Kirsten Dunst, but I think I got the gist of it: she's made yet another unwatchable movie that will die at the box office. And Coppola is great, but the movie is described as, "kind of like "The O.C." set in Versailles". Which I guess means it's about how brooding bad boys who are running from their past get chicks. As if I needed a movie to remind me of that, baby."

but yes he really, really hates kirsten dunst for things like parking in handicapped spots and saying that a better choice in the spiderman story line would be to kill spiderman and let mary jane live to continue the series with a new spider baby.

I don't give a shit about what Kirstin Dunst does in her personal life. She's not a scientologist, so she's way better off than half of Hollywood. She's been in some really good movies, and to refer to her films as "unwatchable" and saying they "will die at the box office" is just kind of stupid.

my statement was correct. while i did not explain myself completely you of all people should understand that there is a difference b/w something that is made as a "movie" (like MI3) and something that is made as a film (like this one). it may be a cheesy way to state it , but it is true.
