Autozone and Advance doesn't go back that far... "the plug doesn't fit" and when I use the jumper it's not the right code... it's 4 blinks, pause, 8 blinks pause, 4 blinks pause, 8 blinks pause and so on... so it's either 4 and 8 or it's 48... and I've changed the 02 sensor...what happens is the car will only crank and run flawlessly about 3 out of 10 times. The other 7 times it has to turn over several more times to crank, and when it does, it idles low, the check engine light comes on and it tops out perfectly at 3500 rpm with a stutter.When I replaced the Distributor Cap, Button, Wires, and plugs it ran a little better. The fuel filter has been changed, the air filter, the gas is definitely perfectly clean by now. When I say better I mean the odds of a perfect start/perfect run situation went to 5or6 out of 10 times instead of the now 3 out of 10 <-- weird scroring system... I know.Finally I went to a "honda specialist" that didn't have time to look at it, but could listen to my story and take a quick look under the hood, saw the actual DISTRIBUTOR and said that it has never been replaced and that back in the mid 90's there was a recall on this cars distributor... he said that the bearings in them were bad and it would cause them to ground out... a wierd connection to this is that when it is running raggedy... the flasher for the turn signals just clicks fast all the time like i have a turn signal on and one of the bulbs are blown. Whereas when it is running well, It doesn't do that...I'm about to drive it into a fucking river... excuse my language... does anyone have a clue?

It does indeed sound like some sort of crank angle sensor issue or distributor issue (the crank angle sensor resides in the base of the distributor).A reman one is usually like 250 to 300 dolla for this car. I'd bet the fella is exactly right.Interestingly enough, the error code "4" is crank position sensor, and "8" is top dead center sensor (to indicate when #1 cylinder reaches TDC; tells computer how to index your crank position sensor).

As it turns out...this distributor can be bought brand new for just under 230 dolla, and reman for around 150.What a deal. I wish they were that cheap ten years ago.

Thanks a lot for the input. BTW, when I replaced the cap and the button, there was a burned spot on it. I don't know if that's from it running wrong or the long cranks... and unfortunately what ever it was is probably still happening to the new stuff...
