A friend of mine's boat isn't going forward. I don't know much about the boat. I know it has a 5.0 cobra engine in a Mercury OMC boat (not sure year) The boat will go in reverse, but not drive. He said he tries to manually push the thing into drive near the engine, but the boat acts like it wants to stall. Its an inboard engine.

^someone's been in a cave since 1992^^^ and he will be pulling that out of there, sounds like he shifted without letting it come down to an idle and bent the fork. that, or the ball came loose and the detent spring is wedged in the shifter. either way its damn near impossible to fix in place. there are a lot of small parts to drop in the bilgewhats happening is that he is trying to force it into both gears at one time, and its stalling the engine, unless he wants to do some major damamge, tell him not to do that anymore until he tears it down and fixes it.
