Is anyone else getting this spam in their webmail? I just started getting it yesterday. It comes from different people and has what seems like completely spontaneous subject lines (IE "Attic fungus" or "Ceaselessly"). The body of the text always says the exact same thing, something along the lines of "Watch this company like a hawk tomorrow" and a whole bunch of stupid crap that isn't worth reading. I hardly ever get any spam in my webmail so I don't know where these are coming from. Sometimes they have attachments but I am not stupid enough to open them.

My paypal and ebay accounts get hacked DAILY! Fortunately this credit union I'm not even a member of is watching out for me. I'm really lucky they forward these notices to my office's shared mailbox.

I've been getting it the past year. Never signed up for anything or gave anyone my address, so obviously state has sold us all out.

i have been getting like 3 or 4 of those emails every day for the past week or so.... it's driving me crazy cuz i can't figure out where they are coming from & how to stop it
5/11/2006 10:10:02 PM
how to stop it:1) After logging into webmail.ncsu.edu, click on Server-Side Filters at the top of the page.2) Click the button "Add a new rule".3) Change rule type to "Header Match"4) Select the header "X-Spam-Flag", use the qualifier "is" and type "YES" next to it 6) Then check the option "Discard Silently"7) Click "Add New Rule" at the bottom of the pageWent from 25 a day to 1 every week.

i just started getting "trader alert" emails. and yep, they all have one or two word subjects like "reincarnate" or "process inhibitor"....random words that spam filters dont seem to catch. i have never gotten spam until last week at my webmail account and i dont give my webmail account to anything but school related things. but i have a sneaky suspicion that the Adam's bookstore may be involved. i got a solicitation to sell my books back there, i clicked unsubscribe, went to a website and typed in my email address and unsubscribe. then i get a message that my email address is not on file with their company. the next day, the spam began. so it was either a phishing thing or adams sold me out.

^^^Thanks for that.^^You don't have to pick 'discard silently' if you're worried about that. Instead have it sent to trash or a spam folder. Then you can check to see if anything gets caught that shouldn't.

i forward all my ncsu email to my gmail account, and gmail's spam filters are more than adequate.so.. i win.
5/12/2006 12:00:03 PM
NEVER , never unsubscribe to anything...that just tells the spammers that you really do exist and thats why you got even more spam
5/12/2006 2:34:30 PM
^ive heard that too
5/12/2006 10:05:58 PM
it's also bullshit.

^ really? even the sleezy companies that don't give a shit? im always seeing images in html-based emails that are like http://www.spamalot.com/image.php?email=joe17229@gmail.com&......what else would that be used for, other than validating that you read the email and makes you an appropriate candidate for receiving more email?
