The old thread is too old to post in, but I was wondering where can I get one?Any specific brands that work well?

bttti saw on advance auto parts online that they have stuff ranging from $2 to $12, is this stuff really that good for that cheap?

It works... wish I had pics to show. Not good for long cracks, just small bulls-eye type chips.

shit didn't work worth a damn for me. just go to glassmasters and get you a new windshield for free.
5/11/2006 9:51:07 PM
this is for my dad's BMW 745i, those windshields arn't free... lookin at a $500 deductable, and need it fixed for state inspection, they wont do the repair because its on the driver's side of the windshield...
5/12/2006 10:26:15 PM
if your dad can afford a 745, then he can afford a new windshield.
5/12/2006 10:30:54 PM
he can also afford to save a lil money if possible

your dad needs some better insurance, if hes going to pony up the cash for a 7 tell him two things:1) should have gotten a long body, so as not to look like a bitch2) pay for insurance that meets his needs. if hes going to bitch about a $500 deductable, not only can he not afford the car he probably has it underinsured as well.
5/13/2006 2:30:25 AM
he def regrets not gettin the longbody, but its not a small car either way, didn't know you look like a bitch when you drive a 745i.... the car is insured through state farm and is insured like crazy, my dad is real big on that, and there would have been no deductable had he made the claim within 14days of the chip on the windshiledhe has a really busy schedule and he told the truth about when it happened, so they screwed him over and said that since its passed the 14 days, you have to pay the deductable on the windshieldI never knew asking about a DIY Windshield kit would come along with assumptions of my dad not being able to afford a 7 and not being able to afford decent insurance
5/13/2006 3:35:23 AM
how big is the chip? just leave it dirty as fuck and they probably wont notice
5/13/2006 4:05:08 AM
the inspection guys already noticed it, they said they there is no point in doing the inspection because of the little chip, its right in front of the drivers view
5/13/2006 11:56:39 AM
your inspection guys are wrong. in NC your windscreen can be chipped, cracked, and generally fucked seven ways to sunday but as long as its there and the wipers work it will pass inspection. of course if its so bad it impairs drivers feild of vision signifigantly then any inspector wont pass it regardless of the statutes. its a judgement call, an unwritten rule so to speak, and you can contest it with the inspector himself. or his manager. the inspection statutes or laws or whatever are online in the DMV website, maximadrvr can help you find them.

hmm, interesting, I was not aware of that, thanks guysit was the guys at the dealership, maybe Ill try getting it done somewhere else
5/13/2006 1:41:25 PM
ha bingo, of course they want you to replace it
5/13/2006 3:10:43 PM
I also have a penny-sized chip type on my drivers side. So does that DIY shit work or no?
5/15/2006 9:35:16 AM
1) Does it work?Yes (for small cracks).2) Is it garaunteed? No (I haven't had any problems).3) Are you sure?Yes, just shut up and do it. Beside, it's only like $8 for the kit.[Edited on May 15, 2006 at 9:46 AM. Reason : price]
5/15/2006 9:44:15 AM
im gonna do a couple chips in mine soon. ill report
5/15/2006 9:54:14 AM
well the kit works real well for lil chips, however it wasn't 100% effective on the one that was on the BMW, did my friends honda and it fixed it perfectly, it just depends on the markbeing that it was only like $9, its def worth it to give it a shot before you spend the moneyand using a lighter on the other side of the glass to get the bubbles out worked out very nice on the honda, wasn't too helpful on the 7, cuz the UV lining on the inside looked like it was going to warp
