$499 for the basic.$599 for the premium.http://money.cnn.com/2006/05/11/technology/e3_kaz/Here is the hardware specs on the system.http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/05/16/news_6124681.htmlIMO for the technology included the price isnt really that bad. Definitely something to look forward to.

i like how ps3 changed specs as soon as it became public that the revolution (damn, wii) has motion sensors in the controller...ps3, as the most expensive of the three competing consoles (well, i suppose one could argue that only the 360 and the ps3 are actually competitors), is going to price itself out of the game and make the 360 look like a bargaini mean, seriously...what major leap in technology are we getting here? okay, next gen optical storage, but what else? nothing to justify a $600 price tag, i'll wager
5/11/2006 10:42:55 AM
blu-ray is still expensive - they will argue you will have to buy another dvd player and with this you can just have 1 device
5/11/2006 10:59:51 AM
blu-ray is going to be about a grand itself at launch.
5/11/2006 11:07:44 AM
dear god we dont need another thread on this
5/11/2006 11:13:24 AM
^^^^ uhh Cell processor, maybe?I firmly believe that once developers wrap their heads around how to use this thing, the PS3 will deliver some incredibly immersive games.

one of the few times i completely agree with gargs
5/11/2006 1:29:36 PM
-How long has DirectX technology been around? -How many siginficant changes have there been as DirectX gone from version to version?-How do the above questions fare with console technology?I've seen some NICE games for PS2 that are strictly for the PS2 ... still, how much of the programming will be reusable in the PS3?
5/11/2006 2:23:51 PM
I'm going to go out on a limb and say the differences between DX8 and DX9 weren't as drastic as the changes from the PS2 architecture to the PS3 architecture.
5/11/2006 2:35:29 PM
It has nothing to do with the API, and everything to do with the architecture.Same problem with going single core to dual core. You can recompile the app with a multi-core optimized compiler, but if the program is written as a single threaded application, it doesnt matter.
5/11/2006 3:18:37 PM
Anyone who says this system is too expensive is completely wrong!!!111one Just look at those sweet graphics that they are showing us for the games. They almost look as good as the graphics that were shown when the PS2 was unveiled!

all i know is when i get my ps3 i'm gonna rub it in all the 360 owners faces that i canand i'm gonna be like i have the superior machine, what bitches
5/12/2006 1:07:19 PM
and then the pc users will laugh at you.
5/12/2006 1:09:24 PM
ok superior "console" for those nit picky type people
5/12/2006 1:20:30 PM
^ its funny how you say that...thats not what ps2 owners were saying last time ...i think the consoles have switched places...with ps3 looking better on paper...but the xbox will sell more imo
5/12/2006 3:24:30 PM
i think i'll take the money i would spend on a ps3, upgrade my pc to make it a supercomputer, buy a wii with the newest zelda, and then take the leftover money and take me and my girl out to maggiano's
5/12/2006 4:02:33 PM
5/12/2006 4:43:35 PM
^^^ It's beginning to look that way because of the price. But Sony always has pretty good games
5/12/2006 7:26:21 PM
shrug, they're regular games attract probably about the same ppl as xbox.now that GTA4 and next gen madden will be on 360 first, they'll take a big hit.
5/12/2006 7:55:05 PM
True, but they still has the best racing and RPG games. Gran Turismo 5 is really going to kickass.
5/12/2006 8:44:59 PM
^Yeah but with games like Oblivion and Forza II, are those going to be enough to justify the $500+ pricetag?
5/12/2006 8:56:49 PM
xbox has a sleiu of seemingly decent rpg's this go round, unlike last time. racing is nice, but i dont think it draws in the crowd like other games.
5/12/2006 9:05:15 PM
And its optical drive will still crap out after a year.
5/12/2006 11:55:39 PM
sleiu
5/13/2006 12:00:42 AM

5/13/2006 10:42:26 AM

5/14/2006 12:49:49 AM
