posting this for a friend really... I'm driving the thing right now b/c it gets 3x's the gas millage of my truck.

Pro's:
great gas millage, pimp beater, seats 5, a LOT of fun to drive, 5speed, don't have to worry about dents or dings, its just funny how crappy it is really...

nothing on this vehicle is electrically power driven:
no power steering, brakes, windows, locks, mechanically fuel injected (vw crazy engineering), 5sp is the old VW where first is next to reverse... so when your learning to drive it first and 2nd can be hard to find...

KNOWN issues:
needs a new muffler before it can pass inspection. windshield has a crack 2/3's of the way accross it.
rear view mirror is cracked in the middle.
drivers door requires finess to get to close properly
could use a new clutch cable (<$20)
could use a new intake boot (<$20)
could use a new wheel bearing on front passengers side. (?)
could use a new secondary fuel pump (auxillary one that circulates the gas through the engine)($texas) on a hot day when driven a lot it will studder on take off b/c it won't keep up
could use a new radio and speakers... (but I think that will be taken care of soon)
could use new rear tires (but I think that will be taken care of soon)

no joke this thing is a blast... $500 OBO

it's actually bosch CIS... not a vw specific thing...

front wheel bearing is about 25 in parts...

I "modified" the factory radio location to work with a honda radio... so now the car has radio and speakers in the back... its ready for a true DIN cd player with a cage and it should look perfect...

heh... I'm next to E.S. King villiage... and other than the muffler I don't think there is much rust... but I haven't ever thouroughly looked through it

Lots of interest... I think I replied to everyone that sent me a message... I'm leaving today for charlotte for the weekend... so it will be next week before I could actually get together with anyone and show them this car...

The 5 speed is tricky at first being a W with bad shift bushings(hard to find gears until you know what your doing) instead of a standard HI pattern but once you get used to it you get this sense of empowerment that comes with a great accomplishment... feels like you join the ranks of great drivers that can truely drive anything...(even though its a wonderful POS)

ok so as far as test drives go...

I'll drive it, and show that it does in fact run correctly and everything works to the described manner...

then you can drive it...

we'll set something up early next week for everyone interested...

most likely...

and btw the radio install is "functional" not "proper"... needs a radio with an insert cage to be "proper"

I'll be back late sunday

fwiw, you can buy a linkage rebuild kit that has all the bushings for like 10 bucks.

yeah, we found a website with the intake boot, the shift bushings and the clutch cable for $54 shipped... and we'll tell ya where to get them... they are all like $12 parts and on top of the muffler that also needs to be replaced...

its something me and the guy that owns the car just don't feel like doing when we both have other vehicles we can drive is this one does decide to loose an important function...

but for right now theres just a learning curve on the shift pattern that took me like 3 weeks to really get down (the first week I felt incompetent as hell... even though I knew how to drive a 5sp)

I drive this car to work every day and I have no MAJOR problems wiht it... theres a lot of little stuff but it runs fine...(until on a hot day the secondary fuel pump decides to act up)
