How in the heck do I get my "maintenance required" light to go off! It's a 2002 honda accord. The owners manual doesn't say. I've taken it to auto zone and had the codes rest. I've unplugged the battery and let it sit for hours. I've even tried doing what it says in the 2000 owner manual for honda accords. Nothing seems to work!!! Anyone have any other ideas?

i'd play 10:1 on 1: put the key in the ignition. Don't turn the car on or turn it. 2: next to the odometer is that little knob for the trip OD. press that in and hold it.(you'll have to hold this for the entire rest of the process, so I hope you ate your Wheaties this morning) 3: now turn the key two clicks to the II position. (are you still holding the trip button down?..you had better be..) do not actually start the car. 4: keep holding the trip button down and leave the key at the II position until the maint req'd light goes out. 5: dont get all excited. Keep that trip button pushed down while you turn the key back two clicks back to off and take the key out. 6: Ok Ok, NOW you can let go of the button.http://www.faqfarm.com/Q/How_do_you_turn_off_the_'maintenance_required'_light_on_an_'03_Honda_Civicand probably play 5:1 onTo reset the MAINTENANCE REQUIRED light: - Have key inserted in ignition but in the OFF or LOCKED position. - Push and hold the trip reset button on the right bottom corner of your gauge clutster. (this is the same button that you use to reset your mileage counter) - Turn key to full ON position and continue holding the button till the light goes off. (at least 10 seconds)http://www.faqfarm.com/Q/How_do_you_turn_off_the_maintenance_required_light_on_a_1999_Honda_Accord_Sedan[Edited on May 9, 2006 at 4:28 PM. Reason : .]

5/9/2006 4:29:36 PM
^^alright, I'll go try these two things here in just a bit. Thanks, I'll get back to you when I do!^I've never noticed this "slit" you speak of

i believe there is a fuse you need to pull out, let the car sit for 30 seconds, then plug back in.i had to do this after i fixed something on my honda. i can give better details after work (when i get home to the printout)do you remember the code that they pulled? that will tell you what you need to fix to get it to go away for good.[Edited on May 9, 2006 at 4:39 PM. This thread has taken a disturbing turn.
5/9/2006 5:03:42 PM
I hate to think that I may be reduced to using that shit for wang lube one day.I heard about a friend of a friend that used motor oil when this chick wanted anal, and they had nothing else. I cringed.
5/9/2006 5:04:56 PM

5/9/2006 7:32:29 PM
Takes a bit more than just a little gross talk to scare me away I can actually change my oil in my car too, not to brag or anything
5/9/2006 8:32:12 PM
the the guys in Garage: "marry me plz k?"
5/9/2006 8:44:39 PM

5/9/2006 8:45:00 PM
muffler bearings? Guess not
5/9/2006 8:46:20 PM

5/9/2006 8:53:42 PM

5/9/2006 9:09:06 PM
I pay $80 at jiffy LubeHow much do you charge?
5/9/2006 9:09:38 PM
whoa, seriously...you're get ripped off! I suggest you learn yourself...it's not difficult at all.
5/9/2006 9:10:47 PM
I know it's not difficult, but I hate to clean my car myself or check air pressure
5/9/2006 9:12:35 PM
then don't clean ur car and get bent over by jiffy lube
5/9/2006 9:14:14 PM
gargs i will do your oil changes for $50 and not fuck up like jiffy lube is notorious for
5/9/2006 9:20:30 PM
Just curious, what do they fuck up?They changed my air filter, vaccumed my car, washed my windshields, refilled washer fluid, and examined the engine.
5/9/2006 9:21:47 PM
The oil drain plug is one example of things they fuck up.
5/9/2006 9:22:46 PM
They'll probably volunteer to change your air filter the next time you're in there. That's an item that AT THE VERY MOST needs to be changed at 12k miles, and it's usually more like 30k miles before you need a new one.I went with a friend once to get her oil changed. We're sitting in the lobby and the guy comes out with what looks like a brand new air filter (it's the one that came out of her car) saying that she needed to change it. I looked at it and said, "hell, that thing looks absolutely fine." He shut up and went back and put it back in.Vacuuming your car costs less than a dollar at the car wash.Washing your windshield is REALLY time consuming. Takes a fuckload of skill too. Are you really that lazy?
5/9/2006 9:27:34 PM
5/9/2006 9:28:30 PM
well, I used to goto Walmart before that, and they never did anything else besides changing oil even though they charged $60ish for everything. I have tried Jiffy Lube only once, and this is the first time I have gotten the air filter replaced.
5/9/2006 9:29:26 PM
You know, gargs, unless you're really averse to doing this stuff yourself, I could show you the ins and outs in a short period of time. Of course, I understand the "let somebody else do it" idealogy just fine; I'm getting to where there are other things I'd rather be doing with my time, and money is less of an object than it used to be when I had less of it.
5/9/2006 9:31:48 PM
Jiffy lube hires anyone... and I mean ANYONE. You don't have to know your ass from a fuel pump. I'm not saying ALL jiffy lubes are bad... just 99% of em. Oh and you know the Jiffy Lube on Western BLVD? The building right beside it (to the right... not the pizza hut you nimrods) is the Regional Office.
5/9/2006 9:35:39 PM
I am not averse to it, and really appreciate your offer man...The thing is that I am not good at working on mechanical objects and always feel scared that I am gonna mess up something.I paid $200 to get my spark plugs and cables replaced. It all appeared to be very simple as I was standing there watching the mechanic do it.
5/9/2006 9:35:59 PM
"...a lap dance is so much better when the stripper is crying..."
5/9/2006 10:09:15 PM
hey gargs, just an fyi, jiffy lube is the #1 buyer in America of remanufactured engines.think about that for a sec.
5/9/2006 10:14:08 PM
well look at the total sales for jiffy lube. i et you they are the largest quick lub cahin in the US, and if you compare the number of the fuckups they have percentagewise, it probably be cose to all the other quicklube places.its like people these days bitchin about oil companis making billions of dollars in profit. well maybe it's because they are doin huindreds of billions of dollars in sales!gots to look at the reference frame[Edited on May 9, 2006 at 11:27 PM. Reason : they are a rpoff pricewise thoguh compared to other places]
