the outer banks is from hatterass to corolla
5/9/2006 3:15:32 PM
I'm thinking Manteo/Hatteras/Nags Head/Kill Devil Hills/Kitty Hawk...and I know it's not realistic to go to all of them in the same weekend.[Edited on May 9, 2006 at 3:21 PM. Reason : ]

Buxton or Ocracoke are the best remaining Outer Banks beaches. I'm repost my response from a previous thread:Ocraocoke Island is in Hyde County, you will drive through the very sparsely populated rural county through the tiny county seat of Swan Quarter. There you catch a 2.5 hour ferry across the Pamlico Sound to Ocracoke Island. There you will find a charming little village of about 700 residents. The Island itself is 16 miles long, but the village itself only takes up about a mile of it, the rest is protected National Park Service land. You can find a good deal if your search around. Try the Island Inn, or search the internet and call, you can find a good deal. Its probably different from any beach you have ever been too. They have a lighthouse and wild horses and stuff. The Island isnt that big and there arent that many rooms. I have a pop up camper and camp for about $30 a night with full electric and water hookups at the Beachcomber Campground (warm showers too). Plus its 16 miles long. If you have a 4x4 you can drive out to the inlet and enjoy the view there. If you have a regular car, u can park on the side of highway 12 and walk over at one of the many beach accesses. You can literally find a stretch of beach all your own, with noone around, and not have thousands of people around you. Absolute peace and solitude. At the beach in the Summer. Its amazing.http://www.ocracokevillage.com/

check out the tranquil house inn in downtown manteo. it's right on the water, walking distance to shops/rest. and some historical sites. i'm not sure of the price, but it might be worth looking into.

Ocracoke is full of vacationing homosexuals
5/9/2006 3:27:24 PM
If your doing the actual Outer Banks, go to "Duck". It is a great place and there are some really cool restaurants and small hotels up there. For camping, I highly recommend the "Waves" area. It is half of the way down the banks going towards Ocracoke Island. On the map, it is the outer most point in the line of islands. There are some nice campgrounds there and a few nice restaurants. And the beach there is amazing.

Camped for a weekend at kitty hawk over spring break. For the most part, i was either asleep or drunk or on the beach, so I can only suggest tradewinds (chinese), and the coffee shop two doors down. Both are EXCELLENT.

Mama Kwans is awesome. I've been eating there for years and years.

5/9/2006 5:41:59 PM
^^Fish Tacos, place is with walking distance of the crib
5/9/2006 5:47:15 PM
Duck is a really nice area... beaches -> not so much... too many seashells n stuff.... but the water's still pretty dang cold anyway
5/9/2006 5:49:31 PM
btw I have lived in Nags Head and Kill Devil Hills, and have been fishing Buxton and Ocracoke for a long time. Theres a reason why Ocracoke is one of the best beaches in the US. I should be spending a week there in June or July.
5/9/2006 9:26:46 PM
btttsuggestions for at least some sort of nightlife out in the OBX?
6/21/2006 2:50:02 PM
dont do ocracoke. the ferry ride is way to long for nothing. my visit to the beach was accented with a bike chase by yellow flies. the beaches are littered with jellyfish.. A LOT OF JELLYFISH. Apparently the locals are immuned to the stings.
6/21/2006 2:57:54 PM
Ocracoke or portsmouth islandbut I'd be happy if none of you fuckers showed up at portsmouthI think it's the last great beach left in the state^ wtf ocracoke is a cool placeit's not myrtle beach or anything like that, but it is a great palce to get awayand jellyfish stings are something you get used to[Edited on June 21, 2006 at 3:02 PM. Reason : stay away from portsmouth]
6/21/2006 3:01:13 PM
ocrcoke is not cool. we were backed up in traffic and by the time we go to passing the blockage, it was an old fucker in his hover-round
6/21/2006 3:03:52 PM
you went at the wrong time of the yearportsmouth is awesome, but it's out there and there is nothing thereI'm spending july 4th week at Harkers Island
6/21/2006 3:06:00 PM
nightlife? kelly's, Outer Banks Brewing Station, the pit sometimes has good stuff, mama kwans.
6/21/2006 3:23:12 PM
^^ ordinarily i'd say stay the fuck off of my island.that's right, it's mine.but you're cool, you get a pass.
6/21/2006 3:50:30 PM
hahah glad I got a pass sirwe're bring down 4 boats too
6/21/2006 3:53:49 PM
the beach itself of ocracoke is my personal fav...duck is just as nicei am not expecting much for nightlife in the obx since it's mostly residential/family oriented beach towns. just need a fun place to hangout when the sun goes down. myrtle has all the nightlife, but its beaches are definately not favorable
6/21/2006 3:55:38 PM
Ocracoke is a long trip. It's better to work it into an overall banks trip, with a visit to Nag's Head, Manteo, Ocracoke, with a ferry trip back. It is definitely the best spot on the outer banks though. If you want real nightlife though, go to Wilmington/Wrightsville like you have hundreds of times by now.
6/21/2006 3:56:36 PM
^yeah, rly
6/21/2006 4:10:51 PM
HURRICANE MOES IS BY FAR THE COOLEST PLACE TO HANG OUT.....MY BROTHER PLAYS THERE EVERY SATURDAY WITH MATT MCGUIRE (THE GUY WHO USED TO PLAY AT DILLIGAFS).....THATS WHERE ALL THE LIFEGUARDS AND "SEASONALS" HANG....
6/21/2006 4:17:01 PM
^^^^you can't seriously think that duck is a nice beach, can you? there is ZERO public parking anywhere near the beach, every street is full of vacation homes so the beach will have tons of people on them. the beach itself is red pebbles that hurt to sit/kneel on. Duck is a tourist trap of a town with no redeeming quality over any beach within 100 miles. The town closes shop at 6 or 7pm (except for a few restaurants) so there is no reason to really be there at all. If you want to go to duck for the shops, that's fine, go there one day, but to stay in duck is stupid.[Edited on June 21, 2006 at 4:44 PM. Reason : ]
6/21/2006 4:44:04 PM
yeah, nm, duck isn't that great of a beach...i had forgot the notes you listed. last time i went to duck, it was in spring when the water was cold...there wasn't a person around at all. the area has nice looking houses though. definately just a stop-by & visit town.[Edited on June 21, 2006 at 4:57 PM. how many days should I plan for an outer banks road trip? [Edited on July 22, 2006 at 2:35 PM. Reason : after labor day. going for scenery not beach life]
7/22/2006 2:35:14 PM
2-3 days to see everything from corolla to manteo to hatteras. Ocracoke needs a full day itself just because of the travel time.
7/22/2006 2:42:11 PM
Flying fish if it's still there, they have great fucking duck
7/22/2006 2:43:52 PM
it can be done quickly in onebut thats no funyou'll spend mad time on a ferrybest bet is to take a weekend or a three day weekendstart off by going down 70, going to cedar island and taking the ferry to ocracokethen maybe spending a day there, then head north and take the ferry to hatterasmaybe stay over night there or somewhere near there, then head north to kitty hawk, kdh, and then to duck, and corollathen take 64 back[Edited on July 22, 2006 at 2:44 PM. Reason : .]
7/22/2006 2:44:08 PM
i used to go to hatteras village a lotseemed like the nicest beaches and the fewest people, but i wouldn't go there unless you like deserted beaches and no night lifethis was years ago though, and i'm sure it's already a lot more developed than it used to be.

Port O' Callhttp://www.outerbanksportocall.com/[Edited on July 23, 2006 at 1:10 AM. Reason : .]
7/23/2006 1:09:38 AM
Port O Call is too expensive for the small portions that you get. I would recommend Awful Author's. its about mile post 2 or something on beach road.
7/23/2006 1:22:55 AM
mp6 actually
7/23/2006 8:53:55 AM
port o call is a great place to go at night, not so much to eat unless you have a lot of $
7/23/2006 12:33:12 PM
i think i had some friends always tell me kitty hawk was awesome...i think thats where they invented airplanes at too
7/23/2006 2:17:38 PM
holy fuck, god I hate history. the town was called kitty hawk at that time but it is Kill Devil Hill(s) where they actually flew.
7/23/2006 2:53:38 PM
^^ yes kitty hawk is awesome (home sweet home) but kitty hawk, kdh and nags head pretty much all run together into a big ass awesome town
7/23/2006 5:47:09 PM
7/23/2006 6:06:44 PM
maybe any damn day of the week any time of year. mp 10 to mp5, nags head to kitty hawk. If it takes more than 10 minutes to drive that then there better be a big ass wreck and I'm taking the beach road. I drive this 4 times a day, every day, all summer.^weekly rental or long term rental management?[Edited on July 23, 2006 at 6:51 PM. Reason : ]
