Has anyone heard of any plans for the old Lord & Taylor store or old Toys R Us store?
5/8/2006 1:58:04 PM
i believe lord & taylor is supposed to be a macys
5/8/2006 2:20:37 PM
hechts is going to be the macys. lord and taylor is still up in the air. they're renovating the toys r us i believe for an old navy. a lot is goign on down there, but I don't think they're doing enough to compete with the other malls in the area.
5/8/2006 2:28:59 PM
I know an Apple Store is going up somewhere in Crabtree.
5/8/2006 2:31:33 PM
^ Yeah. They need to do an outdoor area like Southpoint.
5/8/2006 2:35:22 PM
they dont need to compete. for some reason they are still the most visited mall in the state
5/8/2006 3:11:27 PM
^ it's pretty much the only mall i gotoit's close, i get decent parking spaces, and it has everything i'm looking for
5/8/2006 3:21:41 PM
the plan used to be for a covered outdoor shopping areai dont know if it has changed
5/8/2006 3:31:14 PM
http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.php?showforum=208A lot here about the crabtree and surrounding areas, including speculation about the mall.
5/8/2006 3:40:49 PM
Best Buy is going to move closer to crabtree.
5/8/2006 3:42:29 PM
HANES MALL WHAT SON
5/8/2006 3:42:42 PM
was told today that the toys r us building will be a best buy and that there is speculation that the barnes and noble wants to convert to a 2 story building (wtf?)
5/8/2006 3:53:17 PM
I heard that Rick Barnes from Texas is going to decide what's there
5/8/2006 3:55:39 PM
^^the barnes & noble probably wants to have a similar layout to the 2-story b&n at Southpoint
5/8/2006 4:00:45 PM
^ I'm sure they do. We don't need 2 Best Buys within 3 miles
5/8/2006 5:11:04 PM
nah, the wtf was in response to my though of "how much money will it cost them to make some really old 1 story building into a new looking 2 story building?"
5/8/2006 5:48:30 PM
they want to turn that area where toys r us was into a outdoor shopping area like southpoint and ttc.
5/8/2006 11:05:04 PM
The Lord & Taylor store can't be replaced by anything yet, because of a suit still under negotiations w/ their owners...they are about 1.5 mil behind in payments for that rental space, and the mall doesn't want another store from the chain to go there until it's cleared up...which is why plans to move Hetch's into that space have failedThe current hetch's space will be a macy's, but they are behind obviously, since they were scheduled to open six months agoAlso, on the back side, they are still underway on building condos w/ store space on teh bottom floors
5/8/2006 11:11:07 PM
I used to work at the Crabtree Barnes & Noble. There's been talk for a couple of years of expanding the store b/c almost all other B&N stores these days are 2 stories. That particular one is definitely the smallest one in the Triangle. A few years ago there was a rumor that the entire building would be expanded to 2 stories, at which time the B&N would build up. I've also heard a rumor recently that B&N would take over the Toys R Us space, but I don't think they'd want a store with such a huge footprint. As for the Best Buy rumor, I really can't believe that BB would actually move. Best Buy is a destination store - people will go to the store regardless of its location. Considering how many people shop there, it would also be an absolute nightmare to add such a popular store with the limited parking available at that portion of the mall. Can you imagine that place around Christmas? There's no way I'd be willing to go to the store then - so why give up the decent location they already have?My guess is that some other store will come and take Toys R Us' space. Maybe the building will become 2 stories, but I don't see that happening for a while.
5/8/2006 11:30:38 PM
what about all that space behind the mall... steak and ale, etc.
5/8/2006 11:34:04 PM
Best Buy will move if they can negotiate a better lease with Crabtree or it expands sales/lease ratio.
5/8/2006 11:51:20 PM
crabtree valley mall is located at one of the most desirable locations in raleighif not the most desirable location its very easily accessible via the beltline or 540 plus it doesn't hurt being in the more upscale area of town where people actually can afford to go to the stores and spend alot of moneyalso they are building the biggest building in the state right across the street right nowits a pretty exciting areawhere are they planning on putting the best buy? right now they have one less than a mile up the street on glenwood[Edited on May 9, 2006 at 12:02 AM. best buy wants to get inside of circuit city because they are another 3 minutes out right now so they lose alot to cc. they seem to be building something over near steak and ale. lol the pizza hut and winn dixie that were there closed down years ago and still nothing. what a waste. im sure the land $ skyrocketed with the new tower coming up
5/9/2006 12:03:07 AM
when my parents first moved to raleigh back in 1987 they almost bought a house in a neighborhood about 2 miles from crabtree and the new skyscraper for like $110,000 now the house is probably worth 400k-500k they ended up getting a house closer to wake forest... pretty ridiculous appreciationthe real estate scene in that area is definately going way up in value[Edited on May 9, 2006 at 12:10 AM. 5/9/2006 1:55:01 PM
Yeah, where the steak and ale is is where I am talking about condos going up....they will be about 4 stories, with teh first floor being retail space and underground parking garages
5/9/2006 10:02:43 PM
5/9/2006 10:10:30 PM
it hasn't flooded away yet...well at least it didn't during fran. there was some minor flooding though. But the builders of the soleil center will take care of the flooding problem at their end. i forgot what exactly though.

Macy's bought Hecht. The "integration" period has started - you can use Macy's or Hecht's giftcards at Hecht's right now, and the registry is on the verge of converting. They're starting to stock Macy's house brands (check out the cards on the earrings in teh jewelry department, etc). They're also clearing out stuff Macy's isn't carrying, especially in housewares (I think Macy's big house brand for household items is Charter Club). That's why there's all these crazy clearances and coupons in the paper and stuff - Macy's has already taken ownership and is working to convert the store to their brands.
5/10/2006 1:09:48 AM
lmao "the jew department" is that where they sell cookware?
5/10/2006 1:51:46 AM
Looks like Best Buy is moving into the Convienence Center next Barnes & Nobles..http://www.newsobserver.com/104/story/442901.html

but this best buy will only be 2/3 the size of the one down the road... couple that with the parking and i'll never go there...
5/24/2006 9:19:10 AM
wonder if this means the end of the music section at barnes and noble. . . not that i would normally care, but my brother works there.
5/24/2006 9:28:18 AM
What a stupid move for Crabtree. rabtree had the perfect opportunity to reinvent itself and it takes the cheapo route, all but conceding to TTC and SP.
5/24/2006 10:19:12 AM
to reinvent itself to become southpoint? maybe i'm misunderstanding you.
5/24/2006 10:26:37 AM
no, to become more upscale. Best Buy is the antithesis of that. Might as well build a Wal-Mart while they're at it.
5/24/2006 10:29:14 AM
southpoint sucks, i'm sorry. i don't need a mall to be upscale. then again, i go to a mall maybe twice a year.
5/24/2006 10:34:29 AM
What does your opinion of southpoint have to do with crabtree making a bad move? Also, if you have some weird anti-mall sentiment, why are you even in a thread discussing it?]
5/24/2006 11:00:01 AM
do'nt trust any rumors about what Hechts will be converted to Macy's... the Hechts at Triangle Town Center (which was built about 10 years too early) has been subject to the same rumors...Crabtree, as it is now, is just what people think of when they think of a Mall... that's why it's the most visited in the state, because it's almost iconic in NC...
5/24/2006 11:06:15 AM
^The Macy's sign is already up.
5/24/2006 11:10:22 AM
psh crabtree is making it more upscale..most people dont realize but hudson belk has starting to carry some expensive brands like BCBG, we have a few vera wang dresses, betsy johnson etc
