if you are going to europe, just wait till you get there. if you buy them here, you'll have to pay a rediculous service charge. but just find an atm first thing when you get there, and it will be like a 1% service charge from your american bank.also do not go to any place to get your dollars exchanged into euros in europe. you will get screwed there as well. use an atm.[Edited on May 6, 2006 at 4:59 PM. well, i should mention that the service charge here won't be that bad if you go to a bank if you want one less thing to worry about when you get there. it might be like $10-20but i think you'll be able to find a cashpoint somewhere if you just ask someone when you get there.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to get some euros ahead of time even though atms are better. When I went to France the atm in the main lobby of the airport was broken and I had to get some cash to catch a cab, so I was forced to do the exchange thing and pay the fees.
