Just curious what kind of place everyone moved into once they had a job lined up. I'm not talking about moving back home while your job search was going, I mean once the job was nailed down.

I'm about to graduate next week, and already have a job lined up, and have actually found a really nice 2 bedroom townhouse. I'll be living by myself, but I like the idea of 2 bedrooms incase of visitors, extra storage, etc.

I've got a modest two bedroom, a roommate, and a girlfriend. But NYC is expensive, and I'm putting the woman through grad school. I'll start building equity when we both finish school in six years

I shared a 2 bedroom apartment with a friend, but it was a pretty big one with walk-in closets in both rooms. That was followed by a three bedroom house so we had a spare room to use as an office/storage.

i live in a 3 bedroom double-wide with a friend of mine out in the outskirts of hickory, NC..i'm serious..haha..it's not bad for a first place to stay..his parents on it, so i'm not paying much for rent and we have 2 satellites, two bathrooms, fireplace, pool table, ping pong table and the third room is the computer room...and lots of yard space..so it's not bad

I would have no problem with living in a trailer. I just wouldn't buy one because they deteriorate so quickly.

Graduating this semester, I’ll be living in 1150 sq ft apartment in Chapel Hill. It’s a little bigger than my townhouse apartment in Raleigh that I’ve had for the past couple of years, but not that much bigger since the cost of renting is higher in Chapel Hill. It’s a nice place in convenient location, but I’ll be there at least for a year regardless of how the job search goes.

“I'm not talking about moving back home while your job search was going”

Don’t really have the move in the parents while finding a job option available… so I had to sign a lease before I had a job lined up. But even once I’m making some money, I’ll still be happy with this place since it’s upgrade from college.

I'll be married in August (I'm working in Supply Chain Mgmt., her in Nursing) and we'll move into a ~1,500 sq. foot house, complete downstairs & upstairs, 2 full baths, 3 bedrooms, 2-car garage, pretty elite subdivision, no neighbors for 100 yards all around...lovely place

It cost about as much as a cheap, tiny townhouse here in Raleigh in a sketch neighborhood. I'm lovin' the cost of living in my new locale

SouthPaW12, thats a nice house, what is the location? (just a general area) Also, I'm trying to get into Supply Chain Mgmt. - are you in RTP?

Thanks

My first place out of School was the old post office on Chaimberlain Ave, it was the same place I was in when I was an undergrad. After that I moved to a 2 bedroom with a roomate in west Raleigh.

Is that what the odd little flat-roofed place on the corner of Chamberlain & Sutton is? I always wondered why someone would build a house/apartment that looked like that. Or am I mistaken?

I stayed in the same house I was living in during undergrad for two years (house on Dixie trail, 4br/2ba, 3 roommates), then moved into an apartment near Cameron Village. It's tiny (566 sq. ft. 1br/1ba), but it's close to campus and cheap. In a year or two I'd like to buy a house.

right after, moved into a rather expensive 2bed/2bath/garage apt outside of new orleans. had all the whistles and bells - garden tubs, stained glass, tons of closets, alarm, gated, etc. mainly did it because in NO, there are two types of places - palaces and ghettos. and i was new to the area and alone so i opted for the palace.

couple years later bought a 2000sqft brick home on a 0.3acre lot.

SpiralStairs:

It's definitely not in Raleigh...it's 5 hours west in Charleston, WV. It's the capital of WV so it's a really nice place (not your stereotypical WV hickville at all). It's got a mall larger than SouthPoint and 4 major interstates cross in the city. Beautiful mountains...snow skiing...7 hours away from the in-laws...

Took a position w/ DuPont, whom I intered with (landed it through the co-op office, which I highly recommend). I won't live there forever, but it's a great place to start a career when the funds are tightest.

I guess my biggest concern is whether I should get a nicer place, or get a crummy place and save more money. I've lived in some crappy apartments in college, so of course I feel like I want to move into a nice place. Yet again, I want to be rollin in the dough later in life, hence the dilemma.

I lived with my parents for about 6 months after the job offer. So I had to deal with the "where were you last night" questions.

Once I started the job, I lived in a crappy Corporate appartment for a few months, then on to a better appartment.

a few houses later, and I am now in a 2700 ft^2 4 bedroom colonial.

equity rules.

I have a relatively nice 1BR apt in Miami, for about twice the cost of the nicer 1BR apt. in Raleigh that I lived in during grad school. But for down here, its pretty good, and close to work.

i am gonna buy a house in 2 years, want to save some more than buy.....i doubt it will be NC, probably Texas....Prices arent bad at all around Dallas/Fort Worth area and you can get a descent place in a very nice neighborhood.

I figure in 2 years i should have about 160K saved up, have over half of that right now.

[Edited on May 13, 2006 at 6:39 PM. Reason : been in Texas for 3ish months]

my plan for graduating is to keep living where i am now, saving money by living in cheap apartments, and once i kinda get settled, maybe find some decent house to live at for maybe 10 years and then move into an even nicer place after that

stayed in my 1bedroom apt, the fiancee and 2 dogs for about 6 months while planning the wedding, then rented a 2bedroom apt for me, the wife and the dogs, ended up with another roommate for a few months while he was getting on his feet, no problems at all. used the 1 year lease to go through the house building process, ended up being in the apt for about 1.5 years until the house was finished, then moved into a ~2000 square foot ranch outside of Fuquay

Graduated December '05, and moved directly to DC, where I am now paying a small fortune for a studio apartment in a deteriorating high rise. It'll be a couple of years before I buy a place (saving for a down payment, waiting for the housing bubble to burst), and when I do, it'll probably be a 1 bedroom condo, which go for about half a million dollars in my area.

I live in a shitty apartment but my roommates are sweet so it doesn't really suck so much.

I choose to waste my money on cars and electronics instead (with investing in long term retirement stuff etc, off course).

I lived in a condo in Cary right after I got my job out of college... My roomate owned the condo. I lived there for 10.5 months.

Then I moved to my first one bedroom in Raleigh three weeks ago and it is awesome. I could live there forever... But I will probably get a house when the lease is up in a year.

living in a 2 bed 2 bath apartment with my best friend and his girlfriend until the end of may 2007, then either getting a place of my own while continuing to save for a down payment, or moving in with a friend who is buying a house.

I don't have parents to help pay for a down payment and I'm not sure 100% how long I'm going to stay in this city, so I'm def. renting for at least this next year, and probably the year after until I get the $$ saved up for a down payment and figure out where i'll be on a semi long-term basis.
