Its under investigation that nike was responsible for breaking rooney's foot.I never liked nike in soccer, ever.http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=366531&cc=5901

ummm...this is supposed to be Sports Talk
5/1/2006 5:13:10 PM

5/1/2006 5:14:07 PM
oh my bad, did you wanna talk about herb
5/1/2006 5:14:16 PM

5/1/2006 5:18:06 PM
^gay
5/1/2006 5:18:54 PM
get this out of here. england fans just needed an excuss for underachieving at the world cup.
5/1/2006 5:20:01 PM
england doesnt need excuss, whoever he is, but they need rooney, badlythey dont have another great threat up frontand if you cant enjoy soccer then i feel sorry for your pee brain, you better start enjoying new sports because you really dont have that many sports that are actually worth watching
5/1/2006 5:25:28 PM
fuck anybody on this board who doesnt think soccer is a sport. this is a big story that deserves its own thread
5/1/2006 5:27:18 PM
you're calling me gay for badmouthing a game where European men run around in short shorts and a high scoring game is 2-1it is the most boring game in the worldthus, you are gay for watching it
5/1/2006 5:28:53 PM
A high scoring game is more like 5-4, but good guess.Roy Keane could beat the shit out of Derek Morris, does that help?
5/1/2006 5:31:18 PM
ok the word boring should be reserved for sports like baseball or golf where people can read a book while watching the game,
5/1/2006 5:34:04 PM
^^^ Well, we could make a goal worth seven points, would that make you feel better? Then a 2-1 game would be 14-7. And that's almost as much scoring as we saw in NC State football games last year.Plus, you count in the fact they don't have field goals, which is really just a failure to score, then the scoring is only a little less than American football (which has as much scoring as hockey when you look at it in such terms). So if you count touchdowns as one point, and remove all field goals, NC State's final scores from last season are:Virginia Tech 2, NC State 1NC State 7, Eastern Kentucky 1North Carolina 4, NC State 3NC State 2, Georgia Tech 2Wake Forest 3, NC State 2Clemson 4, NC State 1NC State 3, Southern Miss 2NC State 2, Florida State 1Boston College 4, NC State 1NC State 3, Middle Tennessee State 0NC State 2, Maryland 2NC State 2, South Florida 0In 12 games, NC State got 2.4 touchdowns, or "goals", per game and 2.1 touchdowns against per game. But one of those was against Eastern Kentucky, who should not count because they're I-AA, soIn 11 games against I-A competition, 2.0 touchdowns per game and 2.2 touchdowns against per game. An average of 4.2 "goals" per game.In 2004/2005 season of the English Premiership, a total of 975 goals were scored in 380 games, an average of 2.56 goals per game.It is all perception. The reason most Americans can't stand soccer is because there are few set plays and Americans naturally have ADD. That's why most Americans cannot stand racing (and is why NASCAR throw a yellow flag at every opportunity). For example, Europeans cannot stand American football because play stops every ten seconds, and because while it takes them 2 hours to play a 90-minute game, it takes us 4 hours to play a 60-minute game. Like I said, all perception.[Edited on May 1, 2006 at 6:05 PM. Reason : .]

^ the funny thing is they call it football but only one guy can hit it with his footand in football only one guy can touch it with his handsfrom now on i'll refer to it as handball
5/1/2006 5:47:22 PM
^^^^^^^Did Owen not make the team or you just dont view him as a threat? And this is a big loss for England.. GO USA[Edited on May 1, 2006 at 5:48 PM. Reason : a]
5/1/2006 5:48:08 PM
Let's be honest...football is just rugby for pussies.
5/1/2006 5:49:04 PM
and soccer is a track meet with a ball
5/1/2006 5:51:46 PM
Owen is on the team, he's comming off an injury and he's getting old so i dont expect him to really do anything on this level, but at least england still has gerrard, lampard, ...
5/1/2006 5:52:49 PM
it's not the shoes.
5/1/2006 5:54:27 PM
lampard and terry had the same "oh shit we just lost the world cup" look on his face when they carried him off
5/1/2006 5:55:05 PM
^^^Owen is only 26 but the injuy might be a problem. In my opinion England really didnt have that much of a chance with Rooney but without him I definately dont see them going very far.
5/1/2006 5:56:44 PM
i'd like to see a tentative linup, so far though with rooney, lampard and gerrard they've gotta score some goals, i think that makes them one of the best
5/1/2006 5:59:49 PM
true.. they do have alot of good players but Rooney will probably miss atleast half of the Cup. I still think a team will have to play their very best soccer and Brazil close to their worst for them not to win it
5/1/2006 6:09:34 PM
^^ lifted from another board (their no Rooney lineup):-------------------RobinsonNeville-----Terry----Ferdinand------A.cole-----------------CarrickBeckham----Gerrard----Lampard----J. Cole------------------Owen
5/1/2006 6:13:12 PM
Rooney is out so they want to default to a one-front? Bah.Owen and Defoe up top at the very least.
5/1/2006 6:15:54 PM
^ i agree, but may sven it thinking have 4 put pressure and owen get the leftovers
5/1/2006 6:20:14 PM
I dunno, I hope Defoe steps up, but he hasn't all year in the EPL, so why would he now?I seriously almost cried when Rooney went down.and really, I'd put the blame of his foot being broken more on a conspiracy amongst the Portugese players (and manager)really:England wanted Scolari, current Portugese manager, who was highly interested in the England jobFerreira is the one who took Rooney down, on a play that really wouldn't have affected Chelsea's win at all had he let him past to scoreMourinho puts on a fucking Portugal scarf like he's king of the goddamned world after the gamehell, I know it's a reach, but I wouldn't blame the boots
5/1/2006 7:50:14 PM
I don't know enough about soccer to say anything of worth in this thread, but Flyin Ryan's post was awesome. I get that shit all the time as a hockey fan, so I can relate.
5/1/2006 7:53:30 PM
rooney is my favorite player in the world right now...this absolutely crushes me.if he misses the world cup i will be quite disheartened to watch england without him
5/1/2006 8:37:39 PM
dont lose hope, hang on
5/1/2006 8:47:01 PM
sucks for england, luckily we live in america and it doesn´t affect our team.
5/2/2006 8:40:09 AM
5/2/2006 9:06:12 AM
he's just mad cause he doesnt have the stamina to run for 45 minutes, twice a day
5/2/2006 9:29:24 AM
5/2/2006 10:09:55 AM
I'll tell you one thing, buying FIFA 2006 last weekend was a damn good decision, I'm starting to get pumped up about the world cup this yearkinda makes me want to get in better shape so I can get out there and play again
5/2/2006 10:30:09 AM
how is 2006? I have 2005 and its pretty fun but some things could have used changing. World Cup definately makes me miss being in shape
5/2/2006 10:59:51 AM
2006 is pretty awsome, its worth the bucks, although i think they should have the world cup version out now
5/2/2006 11:15:33 AM
I love that game.. Even though I'm perennial champs of Europe with West Ham I still can't attract top flight talent to the club [Edited on May 2, 2006 at 11:35 AM. Reason : and Ronaldhino is on Chelski and KILLS me ]
5/2/2006 11:35:29 AM
I bought 2006 at EB Games last Friday for $30I know its a little bit older (came out in September 2005) but its still fun as shit and the players are on their correct teams First soccer game I've ever owned, I've been playing the hell out of it since Friday
5/2/2006 11:42:34 AM
2006 > 2005and 2005 was really good.
5/2/2006 12:01:25 PM
Winning Eleven 8/9 > FIFA '0*
5/2/2006 1:26:32 PM
5/2/2006 1:35:27 PM
rooney won;t miss the world cup....well maybe the first two games.the man is like wolverine.
5/2/2006 1:45:44 PM
its not that we wont be healthy, its his fitness. he is already alittle on the thick side.
5/2/2006 1:49:58 PM
^^^ perhaps so gameplay wisebut I like to play with legitimate teams and players and I really wouldn't count on Roo to be fit for the WC.... 6-8 weeks is a LONG time to go without playing. I'll pick up about 4-5 lbs in a 2 week stretch without playing, and I don't play every day or nearly as hard as a professional does, not to mention the loss of touch, mindset, etc[Edited on May 2, 2006 at 1:53 PM. Reason : .]
5/2/2006 1:51:08 PM
he can probably still ride a bike or swim to stay in shape, then hopefully when he gets on the feild he'll be back to shape quickly,
5/2/2006 3:05:32 PM
isnt rooney part irish? cause he sure isnt gettin too lucky in major tournament times
5/2/2006 3:09:48 PM
i think darren bent and michael owen if hes healthy. peter crouch for late in the game. hope their midfield is up to scoring goals...
