Saw him there in the back where the bar is watching the draft. I gave him the "what's going on nod," and he said "how ya doing?" I was like "great" and then gave a quick look at the projection screen and gave him the thumbs up, to you know say, "hey good job coach, you should be proud" type of thing. He understood. I didn't bother him after that. I really don't like to bother people while they're trying to eat with their family, but I wanted to give him some acknowledgement b/c of today. The coaches did a good job developing those guys on the D-line.
4/29/2006 8:38:17 PM
no our record sucked so that must mean our defensive players were not developed enough.
4/29/2006 8:40:59 PM
it means that every high school D-line prospect that just saw the draft is thinking "Amato might get my broke ass PAID if I go play at NC State"
4/29/2006 8:42:12 PM
4/29/2006 8:43:37 PM
We have some 300 pound DT on our prospect list thats 5 star already and has offers from every freakin school in the country. Maybe we can land him now.
4/29/2006 8:45:46 PM
not only paid, but CHAMPIONS of the Meineke Car Care Bowl!!
4/29/2006 8:46:00 PM
Bowl wont matter when they see that potential 60 million after Mario's name...and 26 guaranteed.
4/29/2006 8:48:16 PM
i think mccargo is just as or more important in this.not only can we say we had the first round pick, but we can say we took a mid level (at best) prospect and turned him into the 26th pick.[Edited on April 29, 2006 at 9:00 PM. Reason : added words]
4/29/2006 9:00:32 PM
McCargo is a good example for bringing in talent we already have a decent shot at getting, but Williams is going to be a good example for people that have no interest in college because they know they'll be playing at the next level.
4/29/2006 9:02:19 PM
what i meant was it allows us to say "look at what we did with him. imagine what we can do for you"
4/29/2006 9:06:57 PM
^ exactly
4/29/2006 9:08:33 PM
i really hope a amato booing incident doesn't happen this year like the Clemson game last yearamato is a damn good defensive coach and i would hate to see him go like herb
4/29/2006 9:20:03 PM
unlike Herb, I see our football program actually going somewhere with Amato. This draft season is proof of the direction he is taking the program, regardless of what our QB situation has been the last 2 years.
4/29/2006 9:27:35 PM
^^Two weeks after the booing this team turned around and finished strong. Amato showed he was capable of change and it worked. The fans cant be mad at him after that, although he should have done something sooner. Herb was just a stubborn bitch.
4/29/2006 9:29:55 PM
you could also make an argument that a football program takes longer to develop than a basketball program
4/29/2006 9:29:59 PM
I don't think that's even an argument; more of a fact that football takes longer to develop than basketball.
4/29/2006 9:31:27 PM
4/29/2006 9:31:51 PM
I see what you did there....JAY DAVIS FOR HEISMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4/29/2006 9:33:01 PM
Marcus Stone for heisman
4/29/2006 9:33:41 PM
Jay Stone for THEISMAN
4/29/2006 9:37:34 PM
I don't think anyone is calling for Amato to change his entire gameplan. I for one have found football to be so much more enjoyable under Amato than it was under O'Caine. There's only so many WR screen passes I can stand to watch in the same game, especially after they stopped working on the second attempt.Stellar defense impresses me a lot more than high-powered offense, which is probably why I enjoy the Wolfpack and the Panthers so much.
4/29/2006 9:38:00 PM
i cant figure it out.am i fan of defenses because i grew up watching cowher coach the steelers or do i just love defense and happened to watch the steelers?side note. the first college football game i really remember was the 92 national title game.(#1 miami vs #2 bama). defense really is better than offense
4/29/2006 9:40:32 PM
if you're not a fan of defense, then don't EVER watch an SEC or Big 10 game. Unless you happen to be a fan of punters.
4/29/2006 9:43:54 PM
guys you are looking at this wrong, if your players are great, but your team is not, then your coaching sucksCarolina ran all over us this year and we had 3 d linemen in the first roundChuck has nothing to do with the development of players anywaymost college head coachs only handle administrative duties and hardly show up at practicePosition coach, strength coach, and d coordinator but not chuck either way bad football record but great draft record means bad coaching
4/29/2006 9:44:12 PM
it can also mean a developing team. Give the man at least 4-5 more years to prove himself. If he's not making bowl games 4 years from now, then you can bitch.

^^^you are an idiotplayers can't simple come out of high school and become first round nfl draft material by themselvesand you can't possible have a #1 defense in the nation individually[Edited on April 29, 2006 at 10:16 PM. Reason : adf]
4/29/2006 10:15:57 PM
on another note Prim Siripipat of News 14 Sports Talk, will you please marry me, even though you did go to Duke and played tennis for them?
4/29/2006 10:30:24 PM
even though?you cant even though duke + tennis.ill bet she raped a few nccu students in her time.
4/29/2006 10:41:16 PM
oh the even though is just saying that she's more than likely a duke fan, and if the sky fell and she did marry me we would have to fight during games.i'd let her rape me. [Edited on April 29, 2006 at 10:54 PM. Reason : ]

4/29/2006 10:57:10 PM
The D-Line is Todd Stroud's accomplishment. There were some mumblings when Amato promoted the Strength & Conditioning coach to D-Line coach but he put 3 guys in the first round, 2 of which were nobodies coming out of highschool... Both Lawson and McCargo were 1* recruits and I believe it was McCargo who only had offers from NCSU and Richmond... fucking Richmond... yet he developed into the #26 pick. Buy Todd Stroud a beer and a fine hooker.
4/29/2006 11:00:59 PM
I give Stroud one more year before he's coaching somewhere else.

So apparently, according to everything I've been reading in the past day based on these draft picks and Amato and whatnot, we should be expecting "major things" out of NC State football in the next couple years...so how many more years until the BCS bid?or is this all smoke and mirrors as usual?

This was a little tidbit from over at PP that a member wrote about a WPC talk Amato gave:I love this one...
