damn and i thought State fans were bad on blaming the officials.
4/26/2006 11:47:02 PM
probably the koivu thing really gets them. i dont get why. sometimes the refs miss high sticks.
4/26/2006 11:49:00 PM
b/c he had the cancer
4/26/2006 11:49:32 PM
if anyone has a clip of what happened to koivu, plz post it
4/26/2006 11:52:21 PM
Remember how we all felt when Cole broke his neck? Now think about how it we would feel if Orpik hadn't even been called for anything. That's how Habs fans feel right now.
4/26/2006 11:53:07 PM
hey sometimes you accidentally catch a stick to the head. happened to me before. luckily i was wearing a full facemask. he was bending over anyways, allowing a higher probability for a stick to hit you in the face. i was a hockey official for the mite, squirt, and pee wee levels for a few years. yes a high stick could have technically been called, even if it was an accident. my guess is that the refs didn't want to cripple a team for just an accident. besides, they would have had to make it a major had they called it b/c of the blood. there were many times when i would be officiating pee wee games, and a player would trip over a guys stick. i would hardly ever call it had i felt that the other player did it intentionally. many times i would catch hell from the crowd or the coaches for it, but i would always call the game evenly. i was well respected by most of the coaches for it, even though i was just a teenager.
4/26/2006 11:57:38 PM
^^ thats not fairsomeone broks cole's neck. all we know about koivu is that he was taken to the hospital.^yes high sticks were common when i played. the issue is the risk of eye injury, which is unkown at this point. [Edited on April 27, 2006 at 12:05 AM. Reason : k3]

one player getting hurt, besides the goalie, should not make you lose a game if you are a good team. exceptions to the rule include:-Gretzky-Howe-Hull (both father and son)-Maurice "Rocket" Richard-Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion-Marcel DionneThere are some others too, but I wouldn't even put Mark Messier in there, except for his performance during the Rangers Cup run.
4/27/2006 12:04:52 AM
When Cole went down all we knew was that he was hurt bad and could have a career threatening injury. The same goes for Koivu right now. I'm not necessarily saying these two incidents should be compared, but the guy is an icon for that franchise (not to mention their captain), and I can certainly understand why they are extremely upset right now. With that said, from what I saw I could see it being called either way. I haven't seen a replay yet, but it looked like Koivu was kind of falling down and got caught while he was really low to the ground.[Edited on April 27, 2006 at 12:06 AM. Reason : we know that Koivu has a cut on his eye]
4/27/2006 12:06:31 AM
^ exactly. from the camera angles i saw (albeit not the greatest) it looked like he was leaning over, perhaps trying to get the puck or getting a little push by Williams was it?
4/27/2006 12:11:24 AM
Koivu was way down low and the ref was looking right at it...it's a judgment call and the ref decided that Koivu put his face in harm's way.
4/27/2006 1:16:37 AM
There was also the terrible no-call for boarding during OT as well.
4/27/2006 1:40:36 AM
man i'm loving all of the hockey talk going on tonight.
4/27/2006 1:44:51 AM
bttt. Fuck the Canadiens!
4/27/2006 5:08:39 PM
not to mention the cole hit could've been avoided. he was losing his balance and that guy totally laid him out. the high stick was an accident.
4/27/2006 5:18:43 PM
whats with all the black players pictures in this thread?
4/27/2006 8:22:41 PM
4/27/2006 8:24:05 PM
Ref was looking right at them, though it's very possible that he thought it was Koivu's stick that came up.
4/27/2006 8:33:09 PM
it appeared that the ref saw it, he could have easily been watching something else
