true phil ford has no head coaching experience, but neither did bill guthridge and he went to 2 final 4's in 3 years. phil's tutored under 2 of the greatest basketball minds on the planet (brown and smith), and would be a badass recruiter. i can almost guarantee he'd take the job if offered

I'd question phils recruiting ability in todays game... he's been out of college for a while... His drunk driving record will turn off parents... and his wife isn't as young as she used to be.

I actually think that this would be a solid hire. He's known to be a pretty damn good recruiter and he has studied under Dean Smith and Larry Brown. Also like the earlier posts have mentioned, now is definitely not the time to be picky.

I don't know that he'd come over. I think he's counting on being handed the keys to Duke's team when K steps down. I only give K about 5 more years, personally.

K 5 more years? if i was K i'd coach another 10 years. i mean hell he's only 59, and in really good health. Bobby Knight is 9 years older than him and doesn't look like he's stopping anytime in the not too distant future. Dean coached till he was what 67 and could have probably gone a longer. K is gonna get that 4th championship, then perhaps retire. seriously if you were Dawkins and you had the chance to be a head coach at a high profile school in the ACC and have a chance to measure yourself against your mentor, then why wouldn't you take it. besides, say K does plan on staying around say just 8 more years, why wait around and get even older. i mean he's what 43 years old, with no head coaching experience what so ever.

Ages do make a difference. I thought K was over 60 (he's close) and Dawkins under 40 (not so much). Still I think the job is Dawkins' if he wants it and does stick around there.

Having a college rivalry with UNC is enjoyable. It builds a brotherhood among us, gives something to talk about it, and more importantly to drink too.

But a college rivalry does not blind me from the fact that UNC has an outstanding basketball tradition, Any acomplished assistant from that school of training, such as Ford, warrants interests. If he wants to come, and we can work out a deal, I say take it.

Coaches are Coaches, at some level all they are gonna care about is the team.

As it stands right now, Johnny Dawkins is going to retire when Coach K retires. That's subject to change at some point, but as of right now those people that are "in the know" regarding this situation have said time and time again that Johnny will not take over when Coach K leaves.
